Oyeboten

That is one of the coolest old Colts I have ever seen. Granted it is not original anymore but that thing was way ahead of its time.

Smith 629, 2 1/2", fixed sights, Eagle Secret Service grips.

Rather on the rare side because of the caliber, a Lew Horton L/E of 500 Astra. This one of mine is in .41 Magnum with the issue holster.
This is the one that made S&W come out with their own line.

Forgive the awful iPhone photo quality. Can't see it but this 642 has some finish issues...but to borrow a quote from Golden Eye: "She's an ugly little bitch, but she'll get you there." :)

SP shop, Lew Horton's rules.

Technically, since I don't own this one, I probably shouldn't post it... but (speaking of Lew Horton, and as resident "poster of an original-recipe 3-inch HB 36") I'm going to anyways...

:D

An older Model 36 S & W 38 Special I did in 1989. After the modifications, I re-blued it. Carried virually every day since, about no Blueing left now.

I modified it originally for the front Trouser Pocket of Levi 501s...for being a work-a-day practical no-hang-ups-or-snags Carry when doing outdoor Work, wearing Winter or Riding Gloves and riding Motorcycle, but rounded up an old Shoulder Holster recently, as an option for when in the mood for that.

Hi Scotishclaymore,

You ask -

Interesting mods there... Out of curiosity, why did you take half the trigger guard off?
Saved time and trouble, if you need it...especially if you have Work Gloves or Riding Gloves on.

Ever try drawing and getting your finger into a small-frame Trigger Bow, with any sort of alacrity, when wearing stout Motorcycle Gloves?

You'll see...

Finger just naturally bends into it this way...Gloves or no Gloves.

Phil; That is not only an interesting modification, but an historic one as well. Many (many) years ago, those mods were becoming pretty popular for concealed carry. I believe it was called the "fitz", or Fitzpatrick (if my memory serves me). The guns were just like yours....most even had the front sights removed, cylinders were radically chamfered....there were a host of many different modifications done to those old guns, to make them "shootable" under just about any circumstance..... not only being able to shoot the gun with gloves on, but, from within trouser or coat pockets, etc. That design was probably one of the most sensible and realistic designs ever concieved for a concealed carry handgun. There are not a whole lot of those guns that were made that way, or, are left anymore. On very rare occasion (maybe three times in my entire life), I have seen one, and when I do, I know that the fella carrying it is "dead serious" about "in close" personal defense. That design is the ultimate in belly guns!!!!..........by the way, what do you ride?

The modification certainly makes sense. I don't think I've ever shot with any gloves on other than fingerless gloves, but I can imagine how much trouble it could be. I wonder why they don't make a production model like that?

I wonder why they don't make a production model like that?

Mostly because, without a trigger guard protecting the trigger, someone would catch the trigger on their pocket, or holster, shoot themselves and sue the maker.

Heres a pic of my old warhorse. It started life as a Victory model. I didn't cut the barrel, it was cut when I got it.

My 642 (every day carry). I've added laser grips since this was taken. One of the things I noticed is that a lot of you guys have dressed your guns up with some awesome grips. I bought a M60/3" barrel today and don't really like the mono grips on them. Can you guys share a link to some after market sites? I've checked out ahrends and eagle.
