I know for us it had become the "assault weapon" terminology for a perceived overly or excessively large folder.The Buck 110 was largely if not entirely responsible for the phrase "buck knife" being synonymous with "quality knife" for me until at least my late teens (around 1990). I am sure that is true for a lot of people from that era.
Spoken breathlessly and in great agitation:
"... and, he had a BUCK knife too!"
Coulda been anything but saying Buck added drama.
For my part, quality? Yup, but over fat, over heavy and over square. One can imagine my brothers being drivers of trucks and riders of Harleys revealed in their belt pouches... Me? Not so much.
