Lets see those...MILSURPS!

The CMP just delivered a very nice 1903 Springfield with a low serial number. This is one of the last of the ones they have available, and they have now taken them down from the www.odcmp.com website.

If it weren't for the Low Number receiver, it looks like it would be a good shooter, the barrel is a RIA dated 1918, which looks like it has hardly ever been fired, and the bolt is a 1941 replacement from its last arsenal rebuild.

I've enjoyed this thread more than any I've read in a long time. Thank you all for the great photos.

Looks like my M38 is in among the Finns. No, it is not a Finn rifle. This photo is several years old. Some of these have been sold.....chris3

Here's a few more of my milsurps to help keep a great thread alive.

My 1943 Garand with it's Utica Cutlery 1942 bayonet...hands down my favorite rifle.

The least expensive firearm I've purchased yet, but still a lot of fun, an 1943 dated Tula M1895 Nagant Revolver.

Two attempts for a more "artsy" photo of the Nagant I snapped while doing some old-school winter camping (the foggy look to the photo is the lens fogging up from the cold, second without the flash).

How do you like the Nagant revolver? I have considered getting one if nothing else to stretch my C & R license a little.

That's pretty much how I picked mine up...with my C&R it was kind of hard to pass up a pistol for around $100, especially one that you know is going to be pre-1945. I personally really like mine. The DA trigger pull is pretty horrible, but it's only a range/plinking/varmit gun anyways, so I mostly just shoot it SA. Proper ammo for it can sometimes be hard to find, but the Prvi Partizan stuff shoots well and isn't as hard to find these days. It's hard to find the full strength surplus ammo these days, so it'd be pretty low on my list of possible defense firearms (though I often bring it when I'm just bumming around the woods or doing some old school camping as it works fine on small varmint, etc) but I find it quite fun for plinking with (mine is decently accurate in SA though it shoots quite high at about 30yds). I'm also a huge history buff so to me it was well worth the $100. It's certainly peaked my interest more in wheelguns, which is certainly nice in making me a well rounded shooter, but bad for my wallet. Haha.

Long story short, since you've got your C&R, it's worth the money and you have a piece of history and something a little different to pull out of the safe.

Great thread, surplus collecting is alive and well.

My newest additions.

A M1903, 1918 RIA receiver that was assembled by SA in 1928, and a 1903A3 by Smith Corona.

That's it so far this year.

The first key to collecting Mil-Sups is to obtain a C&R license.

I bought my first rifle from the CMP (the M1 Garand and my pride and joy). Then I got my C&R and it was all over from there. They just seem to follow me home these days.
