I've noticed several people here have a range on their personal property. I currently have a 30, 100, and 200 yard rifle setup, as well as an automated clay thrower. At my new place (hopefully will be moved in by late August) I'll have a 1000 yard BMG range

Anyway, I'd like to see what others have done to get some ideas for setting up the new place. Currently I just shoot off of my back porch, which is really nice in the snowy winter. At the new place, I'm going to need to setup a shooting shed as the house wont be located properly for porch shooting.

Below is what I have now, I'd appreciate pictures/ideas for the 1000 yard range.

This pic is of the clay thrower. It shoots clays about 50 yards down canyon:

This pic is of the 200 and 100 yard targets:

This pic is of the 30 yard setup, which doubles for my pistol setup:

This is my MIL shooting from my "bench". We shoot shotgun/pistol standing up in the yard.

I have about 3k acres that i consider " range " with no improvements , however some fellas have buryed pipes either to set the " mobile rifle stand " into or a shade . I run cattle and its hard to set anything perminant up that they wont " scratch down " If you would like i can go stand on the places we consider fireing lines and take pics , heck one of them would run 2 miles ( the .50 area as i now call it ) . I wont put up perminant benches as i wont fence off a shooter off area and have seen cattle scratch over an 8' tie buried half its length in the ground .

Pretty simple, shoot from an old storage building at 50-100-200yds with target frames and swingers set in concrete. Sometimes cattle wander by and a cease fire is called. Target retrieval system is an ATV through the pasture. Also have a rimfire range for the kids to plink and enjoy, complete with swingers and silhouettes. Archery targets get quite a bit of use prior to bow season. Hand set trap machine rounds out the shotgun range.

Rembrandt - did you weld the swingers and such yourself? Would you mind sending me the dimensions? I really like the idea of reusable targets.

Redneckrepairs - I understand. My neighbor has buffalo, and they will go through anything! I've replaced several T posts because the buffalo mashed them into the ground :D

It's in the city of Lake View Terrace. They also have a rifle and clay range...all in one. The photo is at their metal plate range 30-100 yards.

Here you go:

A lot of the SoCal THR member go there for a Sunday shoot.

I have a couple ranges. I probably average shooting every second or third day and evenings (laser/light practice).

I've been shooting in my back yard since about 1967 (8 acres).
Only a select few friends can shoot here since the backstop is so small.

Once in a while I'll move back to 50 yards to bench rest such guns as the new Ruger Charger.

I've had a 100 yard range in the woods of my adjoining ground (10 acres) since the early 1970s.

Some months back I rented a bulldozer and pushed the berm back to 115 yards.

Several weeks ago I bought a tractor with a front end loader and now the range is a work in progress but I still shoot on it every few days.:)
