I am aware Denver has an AWB? So I assume I couldn't store any of my ARs with 30 round mags there or Glocks with full-cap mags there?

My parents are looking to buy a summer home in Denver right now (I know how snobbish that sounds, so please excuse me  ). I'd like to leave some stuff there when they buy a house so I'll have yet another location to bug-out to if there ever be a need.

What's the restrictions? I assume Colorado does not have preemption?

ETA: darn... I thought I was posting in legal, could a mod move this over there? Sorry. This is like the third time I've made this mistake. :(
ETA#2: Thanks for moving the thread mods. I appreciate it. :)

For now, as I understand it, you can have your guns there but you must keep it down to 20 round magazines.

I think Solo is correct.

The "Denver" that created the AWB of is only one part of the metro area that most people think of as Denver. It's actually a pretty small part in terms of area. The suburbs (Lakewood, Arvada, Aurora, etc.) are not affected by the Denver ban or their own bans that I know of. You might want to steer your parents towards the suburbs. Golden is nice, and even closer to the mountains. It's a town that's been swallowed by the metro area.

WHY ???????

Might as well buy a summer home in Chicago or District of Criminals

Only good thing about Denver is that it's fairly close to Colorado :D

You parents should think about someplace up in the mountains like Salida, Buena Vista, Lake City, Gunnison, etc ;)

Or if you want one of the last free states look about an hour north in Wyoming.... if they like Denver they would probably like Laramie.

LAK:

I work in Denver, and my daughter attends school in Laramie. I'm trying to come up some similarities between the two. Can you help?

-both have paved streets
-both have buildings
-university located in each

That's it, I'm out.

There are some OK things about Denver, but none of them relate to firearms or 2A issues. Wyo would be a far better choice for a summer home, IMO.

The "culture" in Laramie is more geared towards a larger city than a small Wyoming town, but it retains the small town benefits. The prices of land around Laramie are better than Denver, and Laramie is just as scenic.... actually more so since you don't have to fight tens of thousands of people everywhere you go. That's all I'm saying.

I can attest to Wyo being a great place to live. Laramie is very nice and constantly growing although it is nothing like Denver, I like it a lot more.

I like living NEAR Denver. Inside Denver, there are only a few things do to:

Pack, and
Leave

PTK - does South Park, Colorado actually look anything like the cartoon depiction?

... and if there isn't a Jimbo's Gun Store, somebody needs to open one. :D

LAK:

Got it now. My brief visits aren't enough to pick up the culture. If my career choice didn't require proximity to a large city, I'd probably be up there with you.

There is no municipality called "South Park" in CO.

South Park is a geographic area: a large, arid, high altitude bowl surrounded by mountains, about 100 miles SW of Denver.

Some of the communties in South Park include Fairplay, Alma, and Hartsel. Many years back, there was a big subdivision promoted in part by Art Linkletter in SP. They scratched a grid of roads in the prairie but that's about all. It turned out that there wasn't water available for one house, let alone hundreds. At least that's the way it was when I left CO 11 years ago.

Actually there is (or rather was) a municipality called "South Park" in CO, its an ancient ghost town a couple miles west/north west of Fairplay (I believe it pretty much disappeared in the late 1800s).

Much of that part of Park County does look a lot like the TV show ... only maybe not as clean.

That's one I didn't know about.

South Park was mostly a place to have to drive through on my way between Colorado Springs and Gunnison. I have been up to Kite Lake a couple times, though. Edit: gun related: I fired my first black powder gun up there. There was a guy up there and he let me shoot a couple times. I ended up getting a TC Hawken a while after that.

And I can remember the big hotel in Hartsel from back before it burned down.

Ok. Now it's looking like I too might move there.

Until today I was scheduled to go to FIU law school and start in a month and a week or so. I wasn't thrilled about it as i really wanted to move to Colorado, Washington state, Indiana, or Pennsylvania. I got my new LSAT score today and I got a 163, which puts me within the realm of possible for U Colorado Boulder (I think).

I'm going to be going on a trip to visit as soon as I can get a ticket at a reasonable price.

Out of curiosity, how are the laws in Boulder? If it ends up that my parents live in Denver, and I live in Boulder, then maybe I can skirt the firearm issues of Denver and just store them with me assuming that's where I go (no guarantee of course as I got denied acceptance the last time I applied). I am going to think about what I want to do over the weekend.

Obviously, I'm not basing my decision of where I go to school on gun laws alone, but I'm making my decision based on you practice in the state you go to law school (most likely) and am trying to figure out where .Cheese. will be happy for the majority of his life. .Cheese. will not be happy if he cannot use his high speed hole punchers, especially the ones that are black. .Cheese. will also not be happy if there is a lack of smart attractive women or imported beer, but that's not for us to discuss here on THR since this is about guns. It does rule out Utah though. ;)

.cheese.,Boulder is Denver Lite.
If you do go to the U. of Colorado, just live in one the 'burbs of Boulder like Broomfield,Lafayette or Louisville.
Boulder wants to be Berkeley,Denver wants to be San Francisco.

I lived in Denver for 3 years. I went to college in Laramie, so am familiar with both. Geez, Laramie has better air, open space, better gun laws, better hunting, and better home prices. And by courtesy of its college, a bit of a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Also some decent resturants...

I've lived in Laramie for a lot of years and spent all of those years driving to Denver for various things. I don't see the similarities at all unless we are talking about;

asphalt streets, concrete sidewalks, homes, and buildings.

Don't be so pessimistic. For NOW your EBR's are good to go in Berkeley in the Rockie's.

Well, if that's the case, I'll apply. Colorado Boulder is the highest ranked law school in Colorado right? Darn hippies can kiss my future litigating behind. ;)
