I bought a Vari-X II in 3-9X and fired it at the range recently and noticed a lot of parallax at 100 yards. It was about 3/4" There was none at 200 meters.

The question is: What is the normal factory parallax distance setting? I thought it was 100 yards, like most hunting scopes. The factory website doesn't give such information and neither does the owner's manual.

I wrote to Leupold and asked the question over a week ago, but I haven't received an answer.

Help!! I need to know if this is normal, or whether I should return it to Leupold before hunting season.

Does anyone know how quickly the company usually fixes and returns scopes?

Setting the rifle on my front and rear benchrest setup, I moved my eye sideways and up and down and the crosshairs appeared to move on the target about 3/4" in both axes. At 200 meters, there was no apparent movement. I first noticed a bit of movement when sighting the target prior to shooting, so did the drill described.

Note: It's common to do this when setting AOs on high-powered scopes used for benchrest shooting. The markings on the objective bells are not usually accurate enough for precision shooting.

I realize that it's not possible for a non-AO scope to be parallax-free at all ranges. It surprised me to see so much parallax at 100 yards.

call leupold and ask them. they will respond immediately on the phone.

most scopes are typically paralax free at 150 or 200 yards, depending. i believe leupold uses 200 yards, and i guess i wouldn't get worked up over paralax at 100...

Yes,that's way too much.According to the owner's handbook that came with my last Leupold,(July 08)most non AO scopes are set parallax free at 150 except rimfire scopes are at 60, shotgun/ml scopes at 75 and handgun/ultralight 2.5s at 100.
