I have been told I can't safely load light lead bullet loads, yet I see cowboy action shooters talking about 170 gr lead bullets over 7 gr 700X in their lever actions, .30-30, 38-55 whatever. I have a modern bolt.

I hear about all kinds of problems. The biggest seems the percentage of error factor. e.g. a 0.7 gr over charge is 10%, while it is ok in a 50 gr load.
This can be solved by weighing all charges. I only need a box. Is there a detonation ploblem?

Any thoughts?

BFK, sir;

Come over to a "specialist Board" and ask your questions about lead-bullet loads in your .308 rifle. We do it all the time!

I'm in the middle of cast-bullet load-development for a .308 M1A right now, and enjoying myself immensely.

Be warned, it's a whole new world, and you could get seriously hooked.

As Bruce said, come on over and join us at the link he provided. Short answer is lots of people load cast bullets in 308.:cool:
