Limbsaver Pad....

These came on the market a few years ago, and have their fans. Supposedly, these have internal chambers and a new compound that lasts longer. Be that as it may, I bought one the other day and stuck it on Frankenstein, my parts 870 and test frame for new stuff. I did not grind it down to fit, but left it full size. Eventually it'll get fitted to the TB, after I finish adding spacers to it to lengthen the LOP. Then the big Rempad on the TB will be fitted to Frank, since it's not big enough to keep things symmetricall on the TB.

I've been a fan of the Decellerator since Pachmyer introduced them. I'm no loyalist, I still use the old Remington trestle pads where they came on my shotguns and find them adequate.

However, after 150 rounds today, IMO, the Limbsaver does a better job than the Rempad and ranks with the Decellerator as a top pad.

Anyone else have any of these?....

Yep - got one Dave. Mine tho is the slip-on version.

It lives on my Baikal now and has proved way better than Pachy slip-ons. Very effective IMO and gives me that slight extension I need too. I am assuming the part that matters is same - whether mine or yours.

Dave: I'm thinking about putting one on my 870 to tame the recoil while shooting slugs. The standard Rem Recoil pad is less than to be desired when it comes to comfort.

Are they worth the investment in your opinion?

I mentioned to their tech guy a year or so ago that they'd probably sell a few,if they made a pre-fit for the 835 woodland camo model and a couple months later there it was! I'v switched over all my rifle pads also. An improvement over the Pachmayers!

I have one on my Tikka T-3 in 308. A vast improvement given the light weight of the rifle. I wear a PAST shoulder pad under my coat as well.

I just put one on my 30.06 Savage 110.

With the metal plate that was there, my first range session went something like this:

Bang...OOOOUUUUCHHHHHHH (gun goes back in case)

Last Saturday up at Portage after installation it went something like this:

Bang...bang....bang...bang......bang....bang...bang....bang.....

Time to order one for the 870, methinks.

The I use a slip-on LimbSaver recoil pad - it's great. It has eliminated the pain from shooting hot loads with my Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun.

Obviously, these have some merit, 95 views and no negatives.

P95, sounds like I should get a couple more. A slip on for the NEF single shot and a fitted one for Number 6,maybe another for the 94.

Wags,if your 870 is hurting you, yes.

JSR, Remington's new R-3 pad is a limbsaver.

rwc, I fired a couple light 308 sporters with butt plates. Never again.

chris, a light 20 gauge can kick very hard with oz loads. The YE 870 here does.

Norton, I think you'll like it, When are we shooting together again?

Paul, I had a 45-70 Marlin at one point in time. Killed on one end and crippled on the other. Sold it to a smith buddy who mounted a good pad and loves it.

I haven't put the recoil pad on any of my guns but I use just about every product Sims makes for archery and they are simply without peer. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a recoil pad given my experiences with the company.

I've been so busy with work, the property purchase, and the outfitting the Jeep to GET TO the property I've hardly shot anything this Spring.

I got up to PA to the group shoot and we were doing some clay busting with the hand throwers and I got so inspired that I'm heading over to PGC this morning. I'm determined to renew my trap shooting this summer. The wife has been going over to the AA trap range and has enjoyed that a lot. So...I think I'll at least try to make it over there every Friday this summer.

I'm gone this weekend, but let me know if you want to head out next weekend to PGC.

Have been and am pretty much where you are, Dave. Put a Limbsaver on a Marlin 1895 GG last year and have been very pleased. Installation was quite easy, too (material sands nicely).

I love my limbsaver pads, I have one on both my 870's(wood and synthetic stocked respectivilly), and I have a medium and a large size slip on that I use on all my steel plated milsurps that I love to shoot but not the bruising that comes from extended shooting.

I also tried a kickeez, thought it was nice, but still think the limsavers are better and highly recomond the limbsaver product line.

H, one of the compounds I kept in case I can ever pull a bow again has a set of the Sims mushroom silencers. They work well.

That might work, Norton, lessee how things go. Working this Sunday.

J, Guide Guns produce lots of kick. But you know that. My Marlin had a plate.

SL, if I had a Moisin-Nagant it'd have one on before Shot 1. Those little carbines can hurt at the hind end.

Our family Wizard installed KickEez pads by preference till the Limbsaver came out. Now the Limbsaver is what he recommends in all applications where they can be made to fit. Given that he's forgotten more about 'smithing than I will ever know, I don't argue with him...

I'd just decided to venture away from the Decellerator and try out some of the Kick-Eez stuff. Now you've got me thinking about this.

Actually, as I sit here thinking about it, most of my guns still sport the OEM pad/plate. Since I tend to favor old guns for hunting (at least upland poultry), the vast majority wear thin, hard plastic plates. Fortunately (at least as far as recoil goes), I often hunt with slightly gussied up target loads (ie. lower on the recoil scale) and in colder weather (ie. with several thick layers between the stock and my shoulder).

Frankly, I kind of like the old plates, since no matter how many layers I'm wearing, I can get the gun into my shoulder just right. If the initial mount hangs up a bit, I can shift it easily. For targets I prefer the softer-feeling and more firmly planted pads, but for hunting, the plates work just fine.

TR, good point about the plates. I recall one French.Belgian SxS that had just checkered, shaped wood. Despite it's 6 lb, 5 oz weight, a light kicker.

Count me as another big fan of LimbSaver pads, both slip on and screw on styles.

My best use doesn't come from the shotgun pads but from a G3 clone rifle that I use one of the slip on pads with.
It makes the rather hard recoiling blowback feel as comfortable as my M1As.

Mounted on shotguns these pads make full power buckshot load downright pleasant to fire.

After reading all these posts I am going to be buying a couple of these pads. But I was checking on a few sites and I was looking for one for a Ted Williams model 200 12ga. I know it has all the same parts at a Winchester 1200, but I could only find the pad for the 1300, could I just get this one? Would it fit ok? I don't really want the slip on pad, I want it to fit smooth on the gun. And I just feel the slip on pads look a little tacky.

Get a smith to install one ground to fit,Mike, and he/she might want to get the LOP right at the same time. Little more money, much better results....

I have a slip on one that does duty on a Yugo mauser, MN 91/30, and M38. It works great. I don't have any soreness and I can shoot more than 50 rnds at a time now.

Be careful about leaving the rubber type slip on in your car. I left mine in my car on accident on a really hot, 100+degree, day and it must've done something to the rubber because now the outside is really sticky and catches on everything like flypaper. If I shoulder it, it sticks to my clothing and leaves sticky tar like junk behind.

Went to PGC for some fast shooting.I ran 100 rounds through Frank. Still think this is a good pad.

I used some of the Gun Club loads, an oz at 1300 FPS or so. Kick was noticed but not painful.

I have the Winchester 1300 prefitted Limbsaver.It cuts the punch on buck to an enjoyable level. Slugs don't hurt any more..
