I recently purchased a piece-together AR that is supposed to have a RRA lower, LMT upper and Wilson barrel. I know the lower is a RRA, but the question is I am skeptical about whether the Upper is an LMT or not. Can anyone tell me what to look for on the upper to know if it truly is a LMT. Also what markings would Wilson have on its 16in M4 barrel? Just wanting to make sure it is what he says it is. It shoots and functions flawlessly, just curious to know for future purchases. Thanks:confused:

The only marking on the upper is a small design between the charging handle and the brass deflector on the right side. The barrel on says "5.56 NATO 1/9" Top dead center of the barrel just in front of the notch on the M4 barrel. This is what the image looks like on the upper. sorry the image won't load on here, to big. Its kind of like a square that has been dented in on one side. Making the top slant downward on the left side. The left side of the image is concaved with straight angles, no curves to it.

I think that is the 'new' DPMS mark (since for a long time DPMS didn't use an identifying casting mark), but I could be wrong.....

Every LMT upper I've seen has what appears to be a lazer etched fairly prominent "LMT" logo on the front left side, like so:

Right side of the same receiver:

LMT doesn't make/use any 1:9 barrels on their uppers, so even if the upper itself is an LMT, it has been disassembled and someone else's barrel has been put on there.

NY, the cast marking you have on the right side of your receiver is the same that is on mine. I just don't have LMT etched on the left side. As for the barrel, it was supposed to be a Wilson match. Did they make chrome moly barrels?

which grain bullet to use

I have a 16in 1/9in twist carbine length gas tube on my AR. I was curious as to which bullet weight is ideal for it. I do understand like all other rifles each one has its particular bullet design that they prefer. I want to know what weight bullet would be a good place to start the process of finding the right one.

I'm not familiar with the exact specs of Wilson barrels. If you were referring to LMT, all their barrels are milspec. Chrome lined bore/chamber, 4150, 5.56, 1:7.

Also, LMT may have built your receiver, and then sold it to another company so that it was commercially sold under another name. To my knowledge, all LMT receivers sold under the LMT name have the logo pictured.

Thanks for the info guys. NY, what do ya think about the upper since it has the same marking as yours on the right side, but nada on the left? I appreciate all the responses so quickly.:)
