Rant Apology

The local Dunham's is getting a letter from me informing them they need to train their staff oh how NOT to insult and/or degrade their customers for partaking in sports or activities which they sell equipment store. What follows is my experience today.

Incident 1: Guy behind the gun counter (who is the gatekeeper for ammo). A girl probably 5'6" and athletically built walks up and says she would like to buy some handgun ammo. The guy asks what for and she says quite definitively "Three-Fifty-Seven". The guy then has the audacity of giving the response "You don't look like a .357 kind of girl". She walked out after deciding the price was to high. She did actually respond to the clerk something along the lines of "You'd be surprised at alot of things."
-Also this guy had one heck of a demeanor, tended to treat you like you were an idiot because he kept informing everyone that asked about ammo (regardless of whether they asked) what they need for what and blah blah. I am too nice to tell people to shut up and just get me what I ask for.

Incident 2: At the checkout (sadly you can't buy ammo and have it rung up back at the gun counter so you have to go stand in line again) an older guy with his son in front of us has a box of 9mm. The lady ringing him up asks what it is for and he says he does not carry but shoots and they just kinda start talking blah blah. Then she says "Yeah yesterday there was this guy that came in with a gun on his hip, no safety or anything!" By safety me and my friend assumed she meant visible cable lock, anyway my friend informed her that OC is legal in Michigan and she proceeds to go on about the "Safety" again. My friend just says "the most important safety is up here (pointing toward his head/brain)." Then my friend lays down a box of .40S&W and I lay down my box of 00 Buck on the counter, she kinda shut up at that point.

So basically: The store staff selling firearms and ammo managed to question the competency of their customers, and also downright offend their customers for doing activities the store encourages by marketing equipment for it.

I still bought my ammo and so did my friend because we have been to this location many times and the staff has always been better, these may have been the early "Seasonal Help" in for the holidays or just people we had never seen before. Just really surprised that staff would be that dumb.

Location: Groesbeck south of 14 mile, Clinton Township, Michigan.

It may be a case of an individual needing more training and not a store or corporate policy. With statements like this ...
The guy asks what for and she says quite definitively "Three-Fifty-Seven". "You don't look like a .357 kind of girl".
... I would say he needs a major attitude adjustment. I can see asking ".357 Magnum or .357 SIG?" for clarity, but that crosses a line.

I've been into that Dunhams before but never bought any ammunition or anything. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll know to stay away. The one closer to me, John R just south of 14 mile, has a really nice staff, very helpful and friendly. My guess is you just happened to get two employees who didn't know too much in the same day, which makes the problem look bigger than it actually is.
