I want to expand my collection and buy my first .45 autoloader. I looked up the DW pointman and really liked what I read.

It seems that this pistol has everything out of the box that gun buyers pay big money for after market. I'm also looking at Colt and Kimber but have heard stories about declining quality and support from these manufacturers. I haven't been able to find any actual owners of the pointman. I don't mind paying the price for any of the guns mentioned. I'm looking for reliability and a gun that is fun to use and/or carry. Comments are welcome. :)

I have a pre-CZ Dan Wesson Panther (the stainless version). To date I have no complaints as the pistol has been 100% and quite enjoyable to shoot. The Panther is/was considered a "low-end" model and doesn't quite compare to the Pointman. I also have a Sig GSR Revolution which probably compares more closely to the PM. I don't hesitate to carry either and trust my life with them.

Everything I hear about the Pointman has been positive.

There is a Dan Wesson section over at 1911forum.com.

Ask around at forum.m1911.org and 1911forum.com - there are dedicated Dan Wesson forums at both.

If you want one for play and for potential carry, I'd look at the Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail - stainless, commander-length, with Novak-style three-dot sights instead of the target sights on the Pointman.

Colt quality, from what I can tell, has stabilized lately. They're using better parts and letting fewer duds out the door. I just bought a new production Series 70 that appears to be put together very well.

No need to look elsewhere. I have the pointman 7 and it is great. No problems or complaints. I shopped for months and IMO, PM7 is the best one going for the price range. Very accurate and great trigger out of the box, which was the selling point for me. What do you want to know?

I have a blued DW Pointman 1B. The absolute best forearm I've ever owned.

I've heard that CZ has kept their high standards for quality. I wouldn't hesitate in buying one at all.
