No real reason why, just want to try one out. Will be used for upland and the occasional pesky orange disk. Maybe something to coerce the wife to shoot with me.

Do not want anything made in Turkey, Brazil or Russia. Don't want to spend over $600.

Pump, auto, sxs or O/U fine. Found an interesting 11-48, but it's still got a hang tang and owner is plenty proud.

The BPS would work fine, except that pig weighs 7 lbs. Kind of defeating the purpose of light and handy.

What are some old no-longer produced models I can search for?

I was going to suggest a used Model 1100, but I couldn't find one in your price range. The new Sporting models look like they're going for $800 or $850, so I don't know about finding a used one for six or less.

I did find a really nice 28 ga. F Grade at William Larkin Moore. Only $7500.

I bought one of the new Mossburg O/U's in 28. It came with five tubes and is made in Turkey. The overall quality of finish is lacking, so if you want something really pretty, take the $7500 one, but for right at $400, its not a bad deal. The first time I took it to the range, I hit 23 out of 25. First was a miss, then I had one when I was playing with the barrel selector. It is extractors only, but I prefer that as I reload. Take a look. For the price not a bad deal. I think CZ-USA guns are made in Turkey as well and are better finished and priced accordingly. A friend bought a CZ side by side in 28 and it is a beautful gun, but about $800. Check out their web sites.

They are out there if you look hard enough. I picked up this one, a 28 gauge skeet for $450 just over a year ago. :D

I bought a nice 70's vintage 870 Wingmaster in Tulsa three years ago (with sm's help), for $550. We looked at at least a half dozen of them and they were all in the $500-$750 range. This one appeared to have been fired less than 15 times, and it had a fixed skeet barrel. I've since bought a modified barrel for it and also picked up a Baikal sxs 28 ga. (used, for $350). Both are nice shooters, but the Baikal is a more natural pointer for me.

If you can't find it in Tulsa, it doesn't exist. ;)

Take a strong look at the Franchi 48. Used ones should be within your price range.
28's are supposed to be light the newer Remington's are just 20gauge guns with 28 gauge barrels. Not ideal.

May have to drop back and find a nice lightweight 20 and shoot light loads in it.
No 870 Expresses out there right now. Was hoping mostly there was something used out there I didn't know about. Say like Ithaca produced them in mass quantities for the 37, or a bunch of Winny m12s. ( A man can dream. :D)

Have a 48AL in 20 and it's a dream. Even with mag loads (with the bronze ring properly set) it's easy on my shoulder. Ditto the A5.

Those 20ga Fausti's CDNN have sure are looking good.

I really like my my 28 gauge I have carried it more than any other shotgun this year. I held my own against bigger shotguns shooting rabbits over beagles too (I shoot a H&R single shot youth with adult synthetic stock)

I used to have on of the Express 870's in 28. I foolishly sold it, then got a Citori 2 barrel set 20/28. Sold it for a M1A. If you can find one, I now have a Fausti SXS choked Imp/Mod and it's a pretty nice gun. Italian made and pretty, if plain. You can get higher grades if you want them....
