I grew up all over California. It wasn't that bad, but now I have children, and California has gotten WAY to liberal for us. I don't want my kids around this type of pro-abortion, yet anti-gun state.

Here is what I'm looking for;

Conservative small town
Pro-gun (CCW friendly)
Retired or Pro military atmosphere
All American values (no ACLU crap)
Working families (not a bunch of welfare reipients)
Warm summers and snowy winters
Church goers (Christian preferred)

Am I just dreaming???!!! I sometimes think that a place like this does not exist.

Thanks
JQ

Roanoke, Virginia:
Conservative small town - Check
Pro-gun (CCW friendly) - Check
Retired or Pro military atmosphere - AFAIK. Radford Arsenal is 1hr away...
All American values (no ACLU crap) - never noticed any liberal tendencies
Working families (not a bunch of welfare reipients) - Check
Warm summers and snowy winters - Check
Church goers (Christian preferred) - Check

Goldsboro, NC:
Conservative small town - Check
Pro-gun (CCW friendly) - Dunno, but nothing to suggest otherwise
Retired or Pro military atmosphere - Seymore Johnson AFB in town, Ft Bragg and Pope AFB about an hour away
All American values (no ACLU crap) - Check
Working families (not a bunch of welfare reipients) - being rural NC, there are some rather poor areas, but mostly working class imo.
Warm summers and snowy winters - not so much snow, but plenty warm in the summer
Church goers (Christian preferred) - check

My preference is Roanoke as I think it's stronger economically. It's also a larger town, but not too large.

I've lived in both and continue to visit family in both towns.

Elizabethtown KY. I'm pretty far north from there, but I know several good guys that live there. They're both retired military, and hold civilian jobs on the nearby Ft. Knox base. One is a CCW instructor, and the other is a devout Christian (non-denominational, I believe). It's also near the world-famous Knob Creek gun range. I'd like to move there someday myself.

If you want to contact any of the two I mentioned above for more details, PM me and I'll hook you up.

once you get out of california, and into a smallish city/town in any other state, most of your requirements are easy.

all you have to do is boil down the respective state's gun laws. i suggest you start by excluding 'may issue' states. next, look to climate... w/ the romance of snow comes the reality of cold. how cold can you tolerate? exclude those states that are too cold.

in the states you have left, a cursory check of demographics and such (census bureau) will help you get down to a final few.

then, take a road trip and visit a few of the states. you'll have a new home picked out in no time.

That is a very good introduction of yourself your first post.

Welcome to THR.

I'm sorry but I cannot honestly point you in the direction that you seek.

Vern

All American values (no ACLU crap)

Well that eliminates southern Michigan.

Goldsboro, NC:

I have relatives in Goldsboro, NC.
"plenty warm" is an understatement. All-in-all, it is a nice place. They don't move as fast down in Goldsboro as other states do. I think speeding, and not conversing with cashiers/bank tellers/etc. for at least 10 minutes are felonies there.

Well we don't get much snow in Texas, but other than that the Hill Country would probably fit the bill nicely.

I would recommend the NW Arkansas corridor. Place is booming and meets most if not all of your requirements. Only thing is, ya gotta like WalMart

Well that eliminates southern Michigan.

But definitely not Northern. Get about the Saginaw Bay, and you got two completely different states.

Pretty much any small town a good distance from a large town will have what you are looking for. Try and stay an hour or an hour and a half away from the bigger cities, and you will probably find something you like. Definitely keep it below about 50,000 in size. Sounds like you want a lot smaller than that, though.

Except for the snow (darn! :D ), Abilene Texas.

Three christian universities, Dyes AFB, pop ~150,000, lots of small (some real small) farming/ranching communities in the area. Two hours from Dallas Ft. Worth if you need something from a bigger town (you won't "need" that very often and they're far enough away that there's no-close-to-big-city attitude).

Did I mention it's in Texas? West Texas?

We still wave at each other when we pass on a two lane road.

When it comes to Pro-Gun states that are very CCW friendly you can't go wrong with either Vermont or New Hampshire. Out of the two, Vermont I think has a small lead as the CCW laws from what I understand is very pro gun owner.

As to the rest of your requirements. Snow and New England go hand in hand and it's pretty warm up here in the summer. You also don't have to go very far to find an appropriate place of worship.

If you do come to the East Coast stay away from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Conneticutt. All of them are fine places to live, but pro-gun they ain't.

Good luck in your search and welcome to THR!

Do you work in any particular industry? Will your income in some way be affected by living in any particular area? To use a personal example, my wife was a biotech scientist prior to moving to our area. If she wanted to go back to work, she'd have a hard time finding work in her field in this area.

Small Town

I don't live either place, but AZ and VT come to mind. Both have pretty liberal gun laws. AZ has desert which has a beauty all its own and CO just north has all the snow you'll ever need. VT has some great small towns, eg Granby in (I think) 2003 had one crime, an out of towner bought some pigs with a check that bounced.

Here is what I'm looking for;

Conservative small town
Colorado Springs, CO. It's large enough to have some of the nicities of a large city without the stupidity.

Pro-gun (CCW friendly)
Colorado (excepting Denver) is a shall-issue state, with a very western outlook on RKBA.

Retired or Pro military atmosphere
Bigtime military presence here. Ft. Carson is down the road, Peterson AFB is around here somewhere, the Air Force Academy is on the north side of town, and Cheyenne Mountain is underneath several million tons of mountain right outside of town.

All American values (no ACLU crap)
Generally conservative outlook, though this place has somewhat of a libertarian undercurrent. (Heck, the local newspaper regularly quotes Thomas Jefferson, Ludwig von Mises, and Ayn Rand.)

Working families (not a bunch of welfare reipients)
Not much of that here. Some bums downtown after dark, but most cities have those.

Warm summers and snowy winters
Check.

Church goers (Christian preferred)
Lots of churches here. If you're really into it the world headquarters for Focus on the Family are just up the road.
