Hey guys!

I've been sitting around, staring at this shotgun that I've had since Christmas...

It's a Remington Mohawk-48 12GA, in near excellent condition. As I've said, I've had this thing for a few months, but I also have no clue as to the exact history of it, and Google has failed me (gasp) at aquiring any information on it other than some guy making a post on a bazillion forums about how he has one in crappy condition with someone's initials carved in it.

So I was wondering if the wonderful people of THR would be able to spare me some information? What's the history behind this series? How common are these? Are they worth anything now days (not that I plan on getting rid of it)?

Thanks!

Oh, here's a picture of it by the way:

"Remington Mohawk 48

Q: A number of years ago my father acquired a Remington Mohawk 48 Sportsman 20 gauge in like-new condition. The serial number is 5876XXX. He has never fired the gun, and I was wondering if you could tell me a little about it because I have not found any information regarding the Mohawk. I was curious as to when it was manufactured and its current worth. --T.B., via e-mail

A: Your shotgun is a reintroduction of the Remington Model 11-48 that was discontinued in 1968. Approximately 55,610 were manufactured between 1970 and 1975 in 12 and 20 gauge. This model was not factory cataloged. Current value, depending on condition, is $140 to $325."

The almighty search function...

Thanks for the info though. If you havn't noticed, mine hasn't been hacked up at all... But I'm wondering -- Are there any magazine tube extensions to be found? I took it apart and it looked like I'd either A- have to replace the whole tube or B -perform some sort of hack job on it, which I don't want to do.

Also note that I'm pretty clueless when it comes to semi-auto shotguns, so please excuse me if I say something stupid :neener:

I bought mine slightly used in 1971 for $75. A friend had had a heart attack and the doctor told him no more shooting. He had paid $99 for it at K-Mart, fired it six times, and then sold it to me.

Somebody told me back then that when Remington discontinued the 11-48, they stamped the remaining receivers Mohawk 48 and sold them to discount houses. I don't know how true that is.

I still have it, in fact I dug it out sometime last year and shot some clays with it.

Any Remington magazine extension should fit it just fine. Only problem is, since the barrel reciprocates on this gun you can't use a standard barrel clamp on it. IMO installing magazine extensions without clamps is asking for trouble...
