Right now I have a DPMS ar and I want something of higher quality. I just need some ideas on what brands to stick with. I was thinking of BCM upper and maybe a spikes tactical lower. I'm probably going to put MOE handguards, stock and grip on it. I want this to be a lightweight fighting rifle that can take some abuse. What is everyone's thoughts? I'm thinking of a 1:7 twist rate for the barrel, and need advise on a good trigger group. I'm going with the nickel boron bcg.

You can't go wrong with Geissele, but for around $100, I have become a big fan of the Rock River 2-stage 3.5lb setup. I run mine very hard, and has withstood several thousand rounds with no issues.

i had a friend build me a custom 204 ar

it's a mega upper and lower

the barrel is heavy but it'll put 3 shots within a dime at 100 yards if the wind ain't blowing and the rest is solid

I used a Rock River 2 stage National Match in my 6.8 build. I don't think you can beat it for the price. Maybe not twice the price.

The set up you mentioned will make a fine AR.

As far as trigger:

For milspec, I have been looking at the ALG Defense trigger. They are associated with Geissele. It is a mil-spec'ish trigger, 4.5-5.5lbs. From what i read it is a quality trigger that is very smooth. Some shooters are getting the ALG trigger and adding JP reduced power springs. $65 at Aim Surplus.

I have 3 ARs with milspec fire control groups with JP reduced power springs. They all work great. Pull is around 4lbs. $40 with JP springs.

I have a 3 gun AR with a Timney 3lbs. It is awesome. No creap, no travel, breaks real clean and it is easy to install. $150+ depending on model.

Other triggers i would look at is the Geissele S3G for a single stage, the several Geissele 2 stages and the RRA 2 stage.

Edit: If you go with a milspec trigger, the only mod i would do is JP springs. I wouldn't recommend polishing the trigger and hammer. Some have done it with success, some have failed.

I've heard great things about the rock river 2 stage also, thanks for all the info guys!
