Hey guys well as you know reloading supply's are thin and if you do find what your looking for you end up pay'in out the brass for it.
So I have 1k or so of pulled surplus .311 148gr FMJ steel core that i use for 303 and 7.62x54r. So I says to myself.. Self in your older SKS's this should be fine.. BUT I thought I would check with the trusted experts here on the High Road.
I am sure it should be fine but a second, third, fourth, option is always helpful.
No I havent slugged the barrel's so lets just say the barrels slugged at .309/.310 ish. Oh yeah I did cut a few bullets open thick copper lead coat then the steel core and the steel core is not that hard, no armor piercing type. so Wacha think.
Thanx

Now what exactly do you mean guess and weep both these guns have 5000+ rounds through them. so if I do use these bullets on lets say .310 bore that is .308 what issues can/would I expect?

The SKS was never chambered for a 308 bullet. Slug it if you want but I think you're fine.

Heck, fire a round and measure the recovered bullet.

I want to and will slug. But dont have the rifles here and got the reloading bug now. So gonna do it and if I have a reason to weep i'll post pix and let you know.
Thanx

As its already been said the 7.62x39 and 7.62x54 are both barreled for .310-.312 bullets. Even if it were a .308 barrel the extra .003 of an inch wont hurt anything.

I would start low on the charge first due to more bullet in case so it will feed lowering the volume and possibly raising pressure. That diameter bullet should work fine unless it is for a Mini 30. Those like .308 better in mine.
