Shooters are kind of like the horse players I know. They will brag all day about the longshot they bet and won but they don't mention all the races they lost.
I save all my 100-200yrd targets when doing load developement. I don't brag unless I can produce the paper. I'd have a hard time shooting myself with a hand gun. I love to shoot them, i just pretty well stink.

10 shot groups are tough!

I shoot Bullseye (one hand unsupported is the Rule) and the only groups that matter is keeping them all in a 3" circle (the 10-ring) any tighter is bonus (x-ring). Quite frankly at 50 yards, my goal is a 5 inch group. That covers the 9- 10- and x-ring. Law of averages will give me a 95 and that is good for me.

I was happy this past weekend when I got two 10-shot strings all in the 10-ring, done at 25 yards. (disclaimer: if it touches the 10-ring it is still a 10 so the overall group can be bigger than 3" and still get full points)

Sometimes my group can still be 3" or smaller, but off of center. Great group but only awarded a fistful of nines to show for it.

10 shot groups are tough! 9 shots in the 10-ring and then one 6 inches away in the 8-ring is really disheartening.

Lying about groups is also tough to do when others are scoring!

I absolutely NEVER lie about group size, I also see absolutely no reason to ever speak of groups that are less than spectacular, which may also explain why this is probably the only time I have ever made a post that contains the word group.

Shoot, 6" groups is what I do at 45ft with my 9mm....

I'm a practical defensive shot, but nowhere near a "good shot". Now give me my K-22 and groups tighten up significantly, but is still about 2-4" at 45 feet, depending if I fired my 9mm first or not (heh).

Give me a rifle, and I might get good groups...the problem in my case is my eyes. Once I can afford Lasik, that will be patched up though.

I don't know about groups, but I know my brother-in-law talks about how he popped a squirrel at 100 yards with a .22LR revolver with iron sights. And he talks like he could do that all day long.......

I have my good days and my bad days but I can get 4"-5" groups at about 20 yds. (on good days) with my favorite G27.... I don't consider myself a sharpshooter by any means.

I don't lie about my groups, my wife will show me up! and I posted the pics. ANd the snubbie's we did it with! But it wasn't 1" groups at 100 yrds.

although i've never posted here (about groups), if i've got an issue re "groups" it's usually something wrong and lying about it won't help at all.

There was a guy over on TFL a few years ago who got caught lying TOO much about shooting. My net-fu is weak, or I'd dig it up. He was called out by everyone. Bets were on the table. He kept backing out and changing his story. As I recall, a mod or two even got in his face (what's that called on the internet?). At the end of it all, he claimed his kid (or someone) had been on his computer.

I don't lie. I just don't count flyers (and about half my shots are flyers:D).

Maybe it's just us Kentucky guys, but I sure am guilty of this one :)

I won't exaggerate my shooting, but I focus on my good shooting, not my poor shooting (whether it's me, the gun, or the day).

ever catch that 4 pound largemouth bass and by the time you get home to brag its a 8 pound bass? and yes you did catch and release............My best at 100 yards is 3/4 moa but it opens up too about 3 moa at 300 yards, i blame my parralaxing cheasy 30 dollar scope on my savage model 111 in 30/06

45 years ago this August I caught a 7lb 8oz Smallmouth bass, and I still have her hanging on the wall. Of course since that day I haven't even caught the makings of a good meal, but DAMMIT, I did get one great fish in my life... groups are pretty much the same story, but I am a better shooter than fisherman.

Of course no one lies about their groups. Ask if anyone lies about the distances. Let's face it...shooters are alot like fishermen...

This thread is very entertaining...good idea! ;)

About ten years ago I put three shots into one ragged hole at 100 yards with a Browning BLR resting on a fishing tackle box with a tennis shoe on top of it and another shoe under the toe (or is it the heel of the stock? I always get them confused  ).
I knew at the time that a proper "group" consists of five shots, but I lost my nerve after the third one. I just knew that one of the next two would be the flyer which would ruin everything. So, I left it at three.
Try as I might, I've never been able to repeat that one hole trick.

I don't lie about group size or distance fired. That would defeat the purpose. If I lie about something like that, then what credibility I have is shredded, and never recoverable. I do post my good groups, to show what can be done, not what is done every time.

For instance, part of a good group at 25 yards, with flyer, and taped up evidence of bad group right there.

Or this, two good sight in groups with my vz-58, only mistake was the yardage, it was 100, not 120 yards. Are all of them that good? Hardly, not bad, but not that good. The one hole in common actually is two shots.

Someone said people were getting 2 inch groups at 200 yards with AKs, well, it's the same caliber, but through a CZ 527, does that count? 2 3/4 inches, a bit low due to bullet drop. Typical? Who knows, I didn't fire that much at 200 that day, haven't tried it again. I will once I get the cast loads up to snuff, ran out of jacketed for now.

Am I that accurate with an "AK" style firearm at that range? Heck no! vz-58 seated unsupported at 200 yards.

Anyone in the area who wants to arrange to shoot with me can see the good, bad and the ugly, like these "groups". Whoa, that was a baaad day. PCR at 10 or 15 yards, can't remember, sorry, IIRC, that was a while ago.

Believe or don't believe, but I won't lie about it.
