Yep, that's what they're made for... a .30 cal, low cost bullet that doesn't lead up your barrel. They can be surprisingly accurate.

Perfect choice. Use either the 100gr short jacket OR 110 fmj or soft point. Not ifo my manuals or notes but from memory when i use them some SJs loads may take a slight increase in powder depending upon which powder i use.

Yep, that bullet was made for the .30 Carbine.

A buddy showed up at the range one day with a new to him GI type Inland M1 Carbine. He also had a Captain Crunch Cereal Box. I jokingly asked him if he was eating breakfast at the range. That Captain Crunch Box was filled to the top with Hornady SJ reloads .

Okay, another question:

Can I used the load data for the 100 grain SP that I have in my Lymans manual or the data for 100 grain jacketed bullet found in my Lee manual?

Yes it can. In fact I loaded up rounds with anything from 10 grains of Unique up to 17 grains, then Reloader 7 and H335 up to 3000 fps.

10 grains Unique in a .308 was sweet. 1450 fps and sub 1" groups at 50 yards with recoil and sound like a 22 magnum (no ear protection needed if you are out in the open). Worked up to 17 grains Unique and got 2350 fps, but poor accuracy. With the full house Rx7 and H335 I was getting 3000 fps and the cleanest holes I've ever seen on paper, but terrible accuracy. This was with the bullet seated 0.25" which was just up to the edge of the jacket.

I have since settled on eXtreme plated 110g which I got 500 for about $50 which is cheaper than the Hornady 3005's. 10-11 grains of Unique, Red Dot or Bullseye makes for a great plinking round where you simply resize the neck and reload. The cases last forever and I can crank them out on my LnL AP because I don't have to worry about lubing or trimming the cases.

High Tech ammo used to sell .308 "practice" bullets made out of pressed powdered lead. I heard they were also great plinker rounds for .308 but I never got around to buying them. I see that Berry's also sells 110g .308 bullets for M1 carbine.
