M1/National Matches M1 Quiz

Hmm, the problems with the original sight design not holding its zero, would not be ammo related. And probably were solved by 1941. So I'm at a loss on that one.

Maybe there wasn't ammo available. Did we send the Brits our match ammo during the Lend-Lease program :)

M1 ball had some functional issues with the M1 rifle. They wanted M2 ball to be used if M1 rifles were to be used in the NM.

Also, they wanted the ammo packed on enblocs.

Gentlemen,

The answer to this quiz is on my site. It has a lot of data so just click on the link below and it will take you right to the Ordnance file with the answer. If you have time look around.

Thanks again

ps jefnvk thanks for reading my site. What did you think of the data on it.

I love the site, a lot of information that I have never seen anywhere else. Some things I would have never thought about, such as the NM ammo problems. I really like seeing the 'behind-the-scenes' development of the rifle.

I'm gonna get the books one of these days, but it seems everytime I find some spare cash, a new gun magically appears.

jefnvk,
I think you would like Vol." buy only 1 at a time.
Thanks again
Clancy
ps ypu kow that there are two sites up each with different files on them

Hmmm

I think somebody beat me to the answer, but there largest issue was how it was to be packed. Ordnance wanted it loaded on the 8-round en-bloc clips.

IIRC there was some issue with the M1 Ball ammo and M1 Rifle extractors, and also that M1 Ball ammo tended to be dirtier, causing fouled rifle malfunctions.

Thanks, Clancy, for the quizzes and answers.
