Has anyone tried any of the cheaper mags from CTD, CDNN , Shooter's or
others and found that they work well.
I'd like to get 6 or 7 more 20 round mags and not spend near the price
of a new gun. Thanks for any info.

Now normally I am a factory mag kind of guy but I have bought 10 of the ???German??? magazines from Ammoman and been completely satisfied. Dan's shooter's supply is also selling them.

I don't know who really made them but they are identical to USGI in spring, body, etc. except for finish. They are blued not parked.. All that being said the 10 I have have been 100% and cost all of about $14.00 a piece.

Every bit as good as my USGI's.

I have some Italian and Chinese M14 mags, both work as good as USGI, but were only atround $20, both feel quite a bit heavier than USGI's....One thing, don't buy M14 produced in the U.S. except for USGI..the rest are junk.

This question comes up from time to time, and someone always says to avoid everything but USGI. They don't usually say why, however, so I'll tell you my experience. I bought some of the cheap M14 mags from Cheaper than Dirt thinking, "How bad can they be?" Well, the lock block was pressed into the edge of the mag instead of a rectangle of metal being welded on as is done on the USGI mags. Result, the mag slipped down an inch after three or four shots, and the no round would strip from the mag until I pushed it back in.

As others have said, the Coles Distributing mags are universally liked, and at least a few folks over at BattleRifles.com have had good experiences with the ones that Ammoman is selling.

Hopefully, there will be reasonably priced M14 mags after the ban expires, at least for those of you, unlike me, who live in relatively free states. Believe me, as soon as I can convince my wife to leave, we're outa here.

Then again, a brand new Springfield Armory 10-rounder costs $35. I doubt the 20-round mags from them will be less than that.

I learned from experience that the thermold's will pop right out while firing

lesson #1 avoid the thermolds

I picked up a Taiwanese surplus 20 rounder at a gunshow the other day for $15. Construction was similar to what you'd find with USGI mags with respect to the catch block, welds, etc. It's worked fine so far. The USGIs I saw were $40 - $60.
