wheres a good place to find used m1a garands, and m14's? CMP is out of the question for now, i dont have the time to jump through the hoops. i want to, but i just cant.

thanks guys, brian.

p.s. i am willing to work on a beat up shooter, as long as the barrel is in good condition.

Always will be. CMP does not sell M14's. The whole machinegun thing going on there.

You can buy M1A's here and there, Some are cheap, some aren't. It just depends on what you want to spend.

There are some real M14's on the civilian market, for that you would need very deep pockets.

Any gunshow has M1As, M14 is another story

I don't think I've ever been to a gunshow that did not have at least one table with a few M1As on it. You'd best bring your big wallet though. I have yet to see a cheap one or a fixer-upper. They all tend to be pricey and most folks hang onto the fixer-uppers as well.

As for an M14, I have no idea. I haven't seen one since Vietnam. I hear of someone having one once in a while at the many ranges I shoot at but I have not seen one myself in at least 20 years. :what:

It's a full auto gun so if you do run across one that someone is willing to sell, you'll probably have to take out a 2nd mortgage on your house to be able to afford it. :banghead:

If you do ever find any M14s for sale, please let us all know where to get them. I'd be interested but I doubt I'd be willing to pay the price.

I think if you really like full auto weapons, it is much more fun and much easier on the wallet to go to the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot in Kentucky and pay someone to let you shoot theirs for the couple of minutes it takes to put a thousand rounds through one.

Here's a link to the Knob Creek Range. Check it out for info on their machine gun shoots. I think they have one a couple of times a year that is open to the public.

Knob Creek Gun Range

I hear they have some machine gun shoots in Texas also but I don't know anything about them. Try Google and see what you come up with for Texas Machine Gun Shoot.

Any good gun shop will have at least one or two M1A/M14 type rifles in stock used.
They are readily accepted as trading stock.

Not trying to be a nitpick, but I just want to make sure what it is you're looking for...

An M1A is Springfield Armory Incorporated's trade name for their M14 style rifle. An M1 is a Garand.

As far as M1's go, CMP (if they haven't dried up yet) and gun shows.
For a M14/M1A, a good dealer or here if you want a Springfield. You can also get an M14 built elsewhere, but you are looking at a lot of $$$. Also, older Chinese imports, although banned now, are floating around here and there. Norinco and Polytech. Supposedly they have excellent receivers, built to USGI spec (except for missing the leg that comes down to support the FA bits), but I hear the bolts often need replacing. Other parts on them (mainly the gas system) will probably not be USGI spec.

Don's Weaponry in Little Rock, AR has a real deal C3 M14, if memory serves they were asking $15k.

and fifteen thousand is a bargain anymore.
King George the first guaranteed that only the wealthy could play with the really cool toys.
At least he allowed somebody to continue to play anyway.

Anybody see Nugent show Anthony Bordain how to play with full auto MP-5 suppressed subgun and M60 blaster?

About fifty thousand dollars for those two range toys on todays market.
God favors the wealthy!

Try Gary at randgfirearms.com, yesterday I picked up a 308 and a 243. Got a great deal, he's very honest and fun to work with. Have been doing business with him for almost 30 years. Don't know about the M14's, but I do know he has some Garands.

Pretty much every dealer in my area stocks a few M1As from Springfield. Some of the specialty makers - Smith Enterprises, Fulton Arms, Tactical Rifles, etc. - can be very difficult to find even on the web, so I'd suggest contacting those companies directly.

I got mine at Bud's Gun Shop.

You might be able to find a slightly better price (like on the order of $50 less or so) if you take the time to research, but M1A's are sort of highly prized and people are reluctant to let them go for a song.

After spending a ton of time searching, I finally just ordered one from Bud's. They shipped it quickly to my FFL without any problems. I believe they're based in Kentucky, so I also avoided the sales tax which is significant on such a rifle.

pgeleven heres a nice little charmer M14 if youve got a few $ to toss away. its not a SA though, if youre not the caring type

Not a bad investment there

I bought my M-21 off of GunBroker for a really good price. My Garand came from the CMP.

Sometimes hoop jumping is worth it.

sa would be cheaper then the lrb so why spend the extra cash?

its not full auto its still a semi just like the M1A

Because the SAI receivers are cast, not forged, and they are not exactly GI spec on the outside of the receiver. This can make fitting a scope mount difficult in some cases. LRB forged receivers are highly sought after.

Try Fulton Armory

www.fulton-armory.com/

They aren't beaters though but fully built-up rifles using USGI receivers.
USGI receivers were forged and have the ability to accept full auto parts. About $15000 for one of those.
Fulton builds off of cast receivers, I think from LRB. They are however milled to USGI specs other than the part that comes down to accept the full auto parts.

Weren't there some Communist Chinese semiauto knockoffs branded "M14"? I doubt the O.P. wants to get into a real USGI M14 selective fire.

My advice to him is to figure out what he really wants and what he is really ready to settle for, and when he sees one, BUY IT. There are too many Internet Shoppers who get cold feet because the gun they want is not immediately available at a price they remember from five or ten years ago.

Fulton hasn't shipped an M14 type rifle is many months. No receivers left (they were using Armscorp).

No LRB receivers are forged.

I think Fulton was using milled receivers outsourced to Armscorp, but I am not positive.
Yeah, I think you're right. I think it was Armscorp.

I think they were always badged "M14S" or "M14SA," or something like that, to designate "semi" or "semi auto".
