A shooting buddy of mine has a a fairly new M1A that doubles. Every time he pulls the trigger, he gets two shots. I've read a number of possible reasons, number 1 being the free-floating firing pin in conjunction with non mil-spec primers. Another possible is that he's unknowingly actually pulling the trigger a second time in what he perceives to be follow-through from the first shot. The trigger resets itself as the rifle recoils back into his shoulder and as he's still holding the trigger back, he actually pulls it a second time but doesn't realize it. Any other ideas?

Outside possibility the hammer or sear engagement is not right . More than likely it's the second version you mentioned . Easy and cheap way is to squeeze trigger rapidly to the rear not jerk it and see if problem goes away .
