My duty gun is a Bushmaster. They are not made for high volumes of fire. Mine has broken 4 times. Every Bushmaster my dept bought has had some sort of problem. It is accurate and feeds/fires reliably.

Bushy/DPMS/RRA...etc. all cut corners. If you want a rifle for self defense get one from a company that doesnt cut corners and use the cheapest parts. Colt, LMT, Daniel Defense, KAC and BCM. These rifles are built right.
have you ever actually shot a DPMS or a RRA rifle ?

I own the DPMS Panther Lite. It was my first AR, I bought it before I knew enough to do the proper research and ask the right questions in the right places. It's ok for plinking. Would I trust my life on it? No. I spent more time investigating my next AR and chose Daniel Defense last year.

Yes I have. My brother in law has a DPMS M4 clone and I know several people with RRAs. They are fine for target guns but I wouldn't trust one with the lives of my family. Colt 6920s can br had for under 1k right now.

please answer this are dpms good guns for plinking, informal target shooting, and occasional pest control. and if i was defending myself i would use a glock or a shotgun

English please.....

They would be ok for those purposes. However they are still overpriced and not near as reliable as better known quality brands.

They're fine for that. But you can get a Colt or LMT for just a hair more.

Just be sure to "pattern test" your shotgun before using it for defense. Most shottys are pretty poor at any range. I had to stop using my shotgun when I took the time to try it in reasonable defense senerios. They just throw buckshot all over the place. My pattern started missing a couple at only 20 yards. The Vang Comp (sp?) barrels are nice.

I'm waiting for a Keltec KSG with a decent choke to come out before I try a shotgun for defense again. In the mean time I'll stick to my 1911,Glock, or Colt 6920.

I answered that in the post you quoted. They are fine for target shooting.

are there any of the M4/M16 platform that are affordable but are still decent guns for the price or should i give up and go with an ak

If you're on a strict budget, Palmetto State does have a good reputation. I don't have any personal experience with them though.

Another manufacturer you should look at is Smith and Wesson. Now I do have an S&W Sport that's well made.

For the $1000.00 or so dollars you're going to spend I would consider a Colt 6920, Daniel Defense XVEZ or a BCM.

Absolutely the most reliable AR and the best value for $1k- Colt 6920

G&R Tactical has them in stock for $930. Grant will make sure you get the best customer service possible.

If you need to go cheaper, pounce on this deal from PSA

With an authentic FN barrel, Carpenter steel bolt and 7075 forged receivers, it's the best value for for $700. I won't claim the PSA is as good as a Colt, BCM, DD, Noveske but they are much better than certain other brands. I have a PSA carbine that after a fixing a couple teething problems runs very well. Good customer service too. That's a sale price, so if that's what suits your needs, plan on grabbing it quick. One thing- this PSA has a 14.5" barrel with a pinned muzzle device. It does make installing a free float type handguard more difficult

I agree that Colt makes the best M4 carbine going.
In my opinion everything else is just a copy and it really is not necessary to have a free float forend on a 14.5" carbine.
A KAC/RAS two piece will do the majority of shooters who need rails up front just fine.
Then again, no 16" barrel needs a grenade launcher groove or a bayonet lug either!!:p

i was seriously considering the M&P 15 sport.from what i read finishing the bore in melonite is more durable than chroming the bore and with the money i save i could get a good optic like an ACOG or a EOtech reflex and i have not heard a bad thing about the S&W
