Are there any places online that sell these? Would like a used one acually. I have looked and have not seen any. Gunbroker does not even have any listed. Thanks for your help.

Are there any other rifles out there that would compare. I just want it to train in long distance target practice. I have 1500 yards available with targets set up every 200 yards. Other guns shooting out there are a Barrett 50 and a Rem 7mm. I would like something that will get to the 1000 yard range but do not want to spend a ton of cash for something like the .50

I don't know how many actual military M40's have ever made it to the market, but there are some custom gunsmiths who build them. They are not cheap by any means, and if there are any genuine military M40's in civilian hands, I would venture to say they could/do command a chunk of change by collectors.

Thanks for the info. I had found one of the sites listed, but just now noticed the pricing over on the left hand side.. 3K... A little more than I wanted to spend, but I guess I will save up or find something else. Thanks again.

Thats always an option too. Would probably be more fun and rewarding anyway.

There are quite a few threads on that site with info on builders as well as specs on the M40A1. The marine corp actually got to exchange about 450 of their used original McMillan M40A1 stocks back to McMillan for credit towards orders for their current issue M40A3 stock. McMillan sold them returns on the SnipersHide forum. They have sold on Ebay for a pretty penny when they appear there.

There are several good companies out there that would love to help you empty your bank account.
There is Iron Brigade Armory, McMillan Bros Rifles, Georgia Precision, along with Texas Brigade Armory. I'm sorry if if I missed one or two others that make a quality tactical rifle. But the above companies are the best that I know of.

Here's a company selling replicas for $6K.

You aren't too far off from the price of a Barrett .50
I'd just get a Rem. 700 and start playing with barrels, stocks, bedding, optics, etc.

So why were ya thinking an M40A1 would be cheaper than a .50 BMG anyway? Any USA military weapons command very top dollar and Sniper related easily hits the upper stratosphere for pricing, now European Surplus weapons are cheap....

Remember, the rifle is the cheapest part of shooting. The ammo is the real thief.
