I have a m44 that I bought with an ATI scope mount already pre-installed, and an looking into removing it. I can't say that I really like the setup, having finally been able to try it out, and looking into getting rid of the scope and going to iron sights. It was refinished by a previous owner, and is too pretty for my to walk away from in search of another. I read on the ATI web site that the mount screws go through the reciever, I believe all the way. I am curious if anyone has removed one of these? If so do I need to replace the mount screws with a shorter screw to block the holes as to avoid gasses from shooting out of the reciever and other dangers? If so, can I shorten the current screws? Or does anyone know what thread/length screws I could use? I called ATI and asked, but they were no help, and seemed surprised that I thought they may need to be plugged, which has me doubting myself, because I am certainly no expert. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.
