when I picked up this Carcano I was completely unaware that the Italians were retards when it came to sight picture, so I put a M1 Carbine front sight on :)

Actually, you might want to check out my post on proper Carcano sight picture in this thread: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/headspacing-a-carcano-cavalry-carbine.875387/

Not saying they're right and you're wrong, just that it's different, and what you did destroyed the value of the rifle as a collectible, and as one less example of something not made anymore. Of course, it's yours to do with as you wish, it's just too bad that you couldn't work with the original, that's my opinion, and that's all.

Blah blah. I know what there Idea of a sight plain is and its stupid and useless and as for the value and originality you think popping off the front sight which can be put back on later as a loss of value?

Well, if you already knew what the proper sight picture is, as the Italians used it, and it worked for them, but not for you, then I think your characterization is uncalled for, and I think your method of replacing the front sight is taking the easy way out, instead of learning to use the rifle as it was originally designed. Something you're free to choose to do, of course, though why buy the rifle in the first place if you're not interested in learning it as a piece of history? There are better rifles out there ...

Thanks Wiscoaster for the link. I didn't catch it when you posted it. I got two from Gunny this year that I have yet to shoot. No ammo. I have reloading dies, but no brass or bullets yet. One day.

Yea I forgot why I stopped posting on THR thanks for reminding me, I plan on taking game with this rifle to feed my family it was my prerogative to achieve a bullseye hold on this weapon as the sight alignment was not conducive to 50-100 yd accuracy. I was a poor shot before and now I'm able to quickly get a sight picture and make good hits easily at those yardage as to prevent wounding an animal. Topped with the fact its reversible and the barrel is shot out and will be replaced at some point anyway even if it were to be Bubba'd I think the animosity is ill received. I have un-bubba'd / un-sportarized as well as conserved many a rifle at a loss majoratively so don't be so butt hurt :)

Not from you, your the man keep on keeping on : ) . It does shoot fairly well even with the nasty bore,

If the bore isn't completely shot out - ie passes the "bullet test" - it should improve with repeated cycles of aggressive cleaning and shooting - at least mine did.

Yea I've got a mix of brake clean, Kroil, hoppes and mothers chrome polish I use on surplus or rusted barrels after the first cleaning of more aggressive cleaners, It works great on all bores to shine them up without too much aggression, doesn't remove copper though like I said gotta use a more aggressive cleaner first

Ya, I use pretty much the same plus Barnes for the copper - even have used rust remover on one. Amazing what crap comes out of those barrels ...

Oh yea worst cosmoline ever, not a ton of it but what was there was hard. Most had to be scrapped
