The Machinegun Shoot was great. I did not get to see the main area with the full size machineguns because I was asked to work the subgun range. Range two had a Glock 18, two Uzi’s, two M16's, one Thompson sub machinegun, an AK47 and two HK MP5's. I spent the first four hours instructing and helping people shoot the Uzi’s. There was every type of person in this nation shooting. There were a surprising number of women not only shooting but really enjoying it. One grandmother type shot three of the guns that I saw. She could have easily shot more but I didn’t see.

There was only one person where I was able to watch where his rounds hit and that was because I knew him. He knocked over a bowling pin with the first burst and spun it with the next. My job was to give each person a 40 second course in safe gun handling and explain how to aim along with making sure we didn’t get someone who would turn the gun on anything other than the targets. For that reason I had to hover and watch each shooter closely while being in a position to stop their upper body movement due to recoil while also being prepared to grab the gun if necessary. Thankfully it was never necessary.

This was the third Mustang Range Machinegun Shoot. The next, October 8 & 9, 2005 will be the first Show and Shoot. The turnout this time was probably two to three times the last two combined. I would not be surprised to find pictures of the shoot on the range’s web site. So check www.mustangrange.com and see what develops.
