The Makarov pistol - like many East-bloc pistols - is flat and easy to carry. It's also too flat to fit my hands, and I could never get a consistent grip on it.
See that gap, between the first joint of my middle finger and the grip panel? My entire hand is off the right side of the gun. The only thing holding it in place is pressure between the fore-strap and back-strap, and the gun always wants to twist away to the right. As a result, I could never shoot this pistol well.
Problem is, it's just too nice to leave in the safe... so meet the solution to my problem:
Yes, as a matter of fact, that is a folded piece of paper shoved under a slip-on grip sleeve. Go ahead, make fun of the poor girl. We don't mind.
See that? That's what I'm talking about.
When I grip this pistol now, without pressure from my thumb or trigger finger to confuse the issue, she lines up naturally with my forearm, and is centered in the web of my hand. When I squeeze the grip tight, she stays put - no more drifting to the side. I can pick a spot on the wall, close my eyes, and point the gun at that spot, and I'll open my eyes to find that the sights are lined up right were I'm looking. When the gun fires, nothing changes under recoil. She's happy. I"m happy. And the target gets slapped around without any real effort at all.
I suddenly like this gun a lot more...
