I have 2 Savage's, one has a detachable box magazine the other has a hinged floor plate/bottom release. I kinda hate the hinged floor plate. Is there a way to convert it to a detachable box magazine?
Should I convert it?
Short or long action? It depends on what you want to do. AICS magazines are short in my opinion but they are easy to come by and cheap. I have a mix. But based on your response I will post links to the parts you need.
Thanks.
It is a short action.
I want my rifle that has the hinged floor plate to be just like the one that has the detachable box magazine.
The one with the box magazine is a Savage Trophy Hunter.
The one that has the hinged floor plate is a Savage Long Range Hunter. It is also bedded with an aluminum billet block if that means anything.
Also is this effort worth the time and expense? I'd like to do this myself, no gunsmith involved.
Just pop the old one out and this goes right in. I bought 22-250 magazines and they work perfect for all short action rounds I shoot. There is 2.880 COAL in them as well.
The photos are both Accustocks that came with AICS mag wells. I wanted the additional COAL and downgraded. But got what I wanted. It’s work that you can do yourself.
If you want the metal part, you can order that direct from Savage but it’s 90.00 or so dollars. But it takes a different magazine.
You can actually order the exact same one as on your other rifle to make them look the same directly from Savage. Give them the serial number and they will match the part and ensure compatibility.
