I'm curious about this stuff and wonder how it does expansion-wise and how it chronos.

No SAMMI qualifiers on .380 +P, right? I guess calling it that is good marketing for magtech. it caught my eye.

Is Magtech Guardian Gold .380 +P 85gr JHP a new product for Magtech?

I saw it online, ordered some and I it came in today. Cost was $11.99 for 20. I'm hoping it's decent self defense ammo. If it is, it's a bargain

Anyone here tried it out?

I'll be range shooting it sometime over the weekend but I have no way to test it for expansion or FPS so i won't be able to tell you guys much about it.

Thanks,

Mickey

Without any actual data, like expansion, and shooting it over the chrono, there's no real way to see if it's any better than anything else. If you shoot outside you could at least shoot it through some wet phone books, and get a general idea of how it expands. I suggest shooting other brands, too. That'll give you some comparison.

It kind of irks me that companies are marketing +P in calibers that don't have a SAAMI spec for it, though. Sounds kinda dangerous to me.

Unless Magtech has revolutionized gunpowder the hollow point won't penetrate 10". There are ballistic gelatin tests for the magtech +p round if you care to look for them. Google is your friend.

I've shot it in my Walther PPK and Colt Mustang. It fed nicely in both and when shot into a box filled with wet newspaper, approximately 90% of the bullets expanded to around .45". I've found it to be as good as any other .380 defense round on the market.
