Im looking at getting a makarov and the local shop has a few Bulgarians for $280 to $300.

does this sound about right for a Bulgarian?

I paid $165 for mine, NIB with 2 mags, holster, lanyard, cleaning rod and multi-tool less than 5 years ago. Around here I'd be doing very, very well to get $200 - 225 for the whole shebang. YMMV, as supply and demand set what the market will bear.

Personally, I'd have to want a Makarov real badly to pay that $300 since there are so many other choices on the used market in that price and size range with better features and chambered for more powerful cartridges.

Are there any other makes of Makarovs that are worth 280 to 300? Which countries made these?

I picked up two Russian Makarovs this past year, one for $175 the other for $185.

Good deals can still be found on Makarovs but its getting harder to find them. I've seen Maks for sale at recent gun shows, both Bulgie and Russians selling for in the mid $200's. Depends how badly you want one I suppose, personally I wouldn't spend more than $250 on any Makarov unless it was an E. German.

I have one Makarov left, it is a 64 East German, unfired as far as I can tell. I value it at $350. Its getting harder to find ANY true Mak... I would suspect market price on a good Bulgarian to be $200 - $235 now.

Wow! I don't doubt that they go for that kind of money now, but about 7 years ago I picked up three Bulgarians in excellent condition for $275 total, to include shipping and FFL fees.

One was given to my son on his 21st birthday, my wife shoots the heck out of hers, and the best one is mine (not that there is much difference between them).

We can all post what we paid 5 years ago, and the good deals that are still occasionally found, but I agree with this.

ndh87, I think that your shop is asking a bit too much for those Bulgies.

depending on where you are in va try the hampton jan 26 or fredricksberg gun show
can not remember exact prices but there were some and none were near 250

Here is what I have been seeing lately. I am a collector of Makarovs and look at going prices quite frequently. These estimates (not expert by any means) are based on guns in very good condition and what I have seen them selling for. (Please chime in if you disagree)

Bulgarian Military 200-225
Russian Commercial 200ish
Russian Commercial HiCap with original magazine 250
East German 325-400 depending on wear and service record card
Russian Military "sneak" 400
Russian Military import marked 450
Russian Military non marked 500-600
Chinese Commercial 350ish based on supply/demand

I paid 225 for my mak it was a parkerized Bulgarian Mak made by Arsenal. I have never seen any other parked maks so I naturally had to get it. If they want 285 at a pawn shop try to talk them down. Doubt it would hurt to try.

Makarovs are great guns! I would pretty much agree with bartsitarski's numbers based on what I've seen lately. But I haven't seen a Bulgarian under $250 for a while. Recently at shops and gun shows, I've seen some very good condition Bulgies in the $250 to $275 range, E.G. for $350, Russian military (no import marks) $550, Chinese commercial $300-350.

My cheap Mak story: I got a Russian military (Bulgaria marked) for $150 a few years ago.

I have a good one too. I have a Russian Military and Bulgarian Mak in the mail as we speak for $150 each. The same shop just sold 3 East Germans for $189(2) and $169(1) just before I called to buy mine. Some guy cashed in his collection and shop had no idea what they had. The guy I spoke with flat out said that he didn't know anything about these guns but was surprised at the interest. Within 2 days he sold 8 guns and most went to out of state customers:D:D:D:D:D

I just paid $250 for a Bulgarian here, the only one I have seen in a local shop for at least 2 years of looking. I would have liked a better deal but I had to have it. I have not seen any at local shows. I am going to give it a work out on Friday.
