I went and put 200 through my SA Champion this morning, shooting mostly Winchester 185gr. FMJs. (Up to 1600 rounds on this pistol alone--when is my 1911 supposed to fail again?) When I finished, the pistol was as dirty as a chimney. A field strip, and two dry cotton patches later, the pistol is as clean as a whistle without using any solvents and all of the unburned powder in the barrel is handled by a couple of swipes of the nylon brush. A little Tetra gun grease on the rails, reassembly, and its all over but policing the brass.

That NP3 is good medicine no matter what firearm you shoot.

My experience with NP3 has also been very positive. I have a Colt Commander that Robar 'smithed and refinished in 1998. It is a great finish, especially for corrosion resistance and self-lubricity.

Attached is a pic of my Commander (if I did it right).

Here's a pic of my Novak Special Ops Browning finished in NP3. The finsh is awesome.

I just took another pic that is slightly better than the first.

I had my HK USP done with Rogaurd (externals) and NP3 (internals) a few years back and it still looks like I just recieved it. I'll likely have my P7M8 done the same way.

TEST

I had my 1911 NP3'd three or four years ago after handling and shooting a friend's.
NEVER cleaned it (in over ten thousand shots fired) until recently; stuff held up marvelously.
Recommend.

What exactly is NP3?

I see from some pictures I've seen in the past and some here that is resembles electroless nickel. My Kimber has an identical looking "French Grey" electroless nickel finish that is claimed to be self lubricating as it contains teflon.

What's the deal here?
