What do you folks think about a Firearms International (Wash DC), FN Action 30-06, with a mannlicher style stock?
I saw one today, used, at a local store and thought it looked pretty darn cool. Asking $599. It has a scope and sling. The sales guy thought it was from the mid '60s or early '70s. The owner of the store is a big time hunter and said they wouldn't take the rifle if the barrel wasn't in good shape. What else should I be looking for before I buy it.
I like the idea of having a 30-06, Seems you can get ammo anywhere. Even some convenience stores in the mountains. Thank for any help with this. -CO

I love Mannlicher stocked rifles; rifles made in that style look really sharp and are very pleasing to the eye. I believe that Firearms International (FI), was one of only a few importers that actually used FN Mauser actions in their rifles. Many others used Mauser actions that were made in Spain, France, and Yugoslavia. The model that FI imported for a number of years was called the Musketeer and was availble in three different versions, chambered in calibers ranging from .243 all the way to .300 Winchester Magnum.

They are generally decently made guns, sometimes the styling is a little too 60's, but that is usually only on the 1/2 stocked rifles. You won't find a Mannlicher stocked FN action for less than that.

Hey Thanks-
Bannock, it did say "Musketeer 30-06" on the barrel! It is in pretty good shape too. I think it's a must have. The guys in the store didn't find any info in the blue book about that rifle. Maybe under valued?? Not really my luck to get a "deal", but if it's a fair price, I'll pay it. -CO

Sounds like we have a winner here.

I couldn't find that much specific info on the FI imports, but the FN Mauser action is a real deal maker. Let us know how it is if you do decide to pick it up.

I put it on hold today! Should have it by next month. I'll post a pic.
