guys, for some reason I can't find anything on this. I have installed the rear XS ghost ring sight for my guide gun no problem, but I need procedures on how to remove the buckhorn leaf rear sight thingy and the front sight so I can get this rifle ready for some serious action. Thanks for the input guys, I really need help

go to marlinowners.com it is a great forum with lots of knowledge on all things Marlin lots of helpful nice people.

Get a brass punch and hammer (Lyman makes a cheap but serviceable set that I use for tap adjusting all my sights) and simply knock the rear sight base out of its dovetail. Use a playing card and/or tape to avoid scratches.

Now to fill that dovetail blank, you'll want to get a dovetail blank, made by Marbles and I think Lyman, sold at Brownell's, Midway, etc.

Not sure how the front sight is attached, but if it's anything like my 39A, the sight is on a ramp which is screwed on to the barrel. Not sure how the XS front sight attaches.

The XS ghost ring sights come with a hard plastic punch to knock out the front ('94) AND rear sights (ALL). I've replaced all the sights on THREE Marlins, two '95s and a '94 and the plastic punch works fine. You can knock the site out of the dovetail in either direction. Don't be alarmed if it takes a good whack with a hammer.

The '95 front sight from XS attaches using the same screw holes that the factory sights use. They even have an extra hole and a screw-in plug so that the sight will fit different applications.

:)

SGW, a fellow houstonian!

I got the rear and front sights on. There are two screws on the stock sight, one of them you have to tap out the post in order to get to it. The middle contraption I guess I will leave on until I get my rail. :)

Whoever did the conversion on mine just left the rear there - it's a fold-down isn't it?
Well the only reason to take it off is because it has an annoying tendency to flip up easily. But I was told I might as well leave it on there until it's time to get a rail...

Done!

And done.

Ain't she sweet. I was thinking of installing the smaller ring, though. At the moment though I will be content.

Opinions about the smaller ring vs. larger ring? I have only used open sights in my life or scopes. Would appreciate input.

I have a (Skinner) aperture on my 39A and I leave the stock rear sight folded, and yes, it does sometimes have a tendency to pop back up. I have to play around with the elevator a tiny bit for it to sit just right folded on top of it. Suppose you could try taking the elevator out completely.

I keep my stock rear on because the aperture still works with the stock front sight, and it is nice to have both options. But with yours I think it'd be cooler to have the clean look of a dovetail blank.

I figured what the hell, flipped the open sight up, pulled up on the leaf with my fingers, slid something paper under there and used a punch to remove it. That thing was annoying me big time, I'd rather have a blank, agreed. Stainless.
