I recently picked up a Marlin 1895G in .45-70. I took it out to shoot this weekend and it jammed after the first shot. It appears to be a problem with the carrier as the shells are only getting about half an inch out of the tube before binding up.

I've repeated the jam at home while cycling the action to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I do not believe I got through a single magazine without a jam. I was working the action pretty hard so I don't think thats the problem.

Any options other than shipping it to Marlin?

I can't say I have any knowledge to help. I have a Marlin 1895CB that function flawlessly. Hopefully, someone else can comment.

I had the same jam when I 1st got my Marlin 444. Took the magazine spring out and cleaned the tube and follower. Solved jamming.

Hell is in the details

What did you do to get the magazine cap off? I took the screw out but the cap was still pretty tight I didn't want to pry too hard in fear of denting or scratching the rifle.

Probably a burr or minor fitting issue. I agree a quick disassembly, cleaning and inspection should cure it.

As far as the plug, I don't remember anything else keeping it in place. Just remember the spring will likely send the plug flying out if you don't hold onto it.

Mine must be jammed in there good and tight then. I had the screw out for a good 30 minutes jostling the rifle around and bumping it and the cap never budged.

You mean the plug on the end of the magazine tube by the crown of the muzzle? There should be a little screw going throught he plug which you said you removed. After that the force of the spring is often enough to release the plug. Try doing the movement of unscrewing it.

If that doesn't work, try just popping the tube off of the rifle putting it in a padded vice and sticking a wooden rod down it, then tapping with a brass hammer. Maybe the previous owner got some locktite in there. If you try too much prying from the outside you will mar it.

Anyone else have an idea? It's hard to know more without seeing it.

It a new rifle so it'd have to be a factory error.

I haven't gotten a chance to mess with it yet but will update ASAP.
