I can not find this gun anywhere!! I was going to buy it for my birthday but no one seems to have it. I tried every gun shop in my area, and I even went to bass pro shops. None of them have any in stock, and the distributors don't even have any to ship to them. They all just told me to try back later. Finally, I called Marlin to ask them about it. They told me basically the same thing, to just wait. This is my first gun purchase and I've been getting impatient. How can I do a broader search to find one brand new?

You won't find a new one anywhere unless you get real lucky. The Marlin plant in New Haven is closed and being moved to the Remington plant. If you've noticed the slip in QC in the Remington line lately I don't hold much hope for the "New" Marlins. I'd look for a used one.

Thanks Chas! I have an update as well. I spoke with Marlin again (with a more caring employee) and he informed me that they have been in production all month and are currently being shipped out. He said that they should be with some of the bigger distributors within the next couple of months so I'm just going to be patient.

You're welcome. I hope remington doesn't mess them up any. I used to think of remington as synonymous with quality, and still do with their older guns, but they have had their share of failures here lately. I hope they don't do that to the Marlin line. The 1895 in any configuration is a great lever platform. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine....chas

Guys, you are really worrying me with all this quality talk. My heart was set on this gun but I didn't know Marlin had gone down the tubes : (. Maybe I'll have to rethink things. I mat just get a tikka t3. This so a bummer.

I don't know that they have yet, but the potential is certainly there. There are lots of Marlin made guns still out there you just have to look. They probably will retain their value a little better than the Remington made Marlins too, Though that is speculative.

Gander Mountain in Palm Bch Gardens had one recently. Not sure it's still there. It is A new haven rifle. If your interested in driving this far to buy one I can stop in and check for you.

I like mine ... both of 'em! I'll be chopping the barrel on the XLR to 22" or possibly 21" this year though. I'll like it even more then.

Wow those are beauties!

Thanks! I had three '95s until a few days ago. I like the pistol grip stock more than the straight grip stock so I sold the GG to a good friend. It only had 48 rounds through it and I included the XS Lever Rail, rear XS ghost ring and front sight for $600. He's happy, I'm happy ... all is good.

That's all that matters! How do you like the ghost ring setup? I planned on getting the xs scout rail along with the new variable leupold scout scope but I wasn't sold on backup irons yet.

The XS ghost ring rear sight is fast at the expense of accuracy and precision ... no surprise there ... but it makes a good 50 yard sight where hits on an 8" paper plate are easy enough. If I were using iron sights as my primary sights, I wouldn't use the XS ghost ring sights, I'd use a Skinner sight or similar. I'll probably mount Skinner sights on the XLR once I've cut the barrel down (and worked up a good hunting load) and move the scope to another rifle. I like the idea of having a simple big bore lever action similar to my Marlin '94s in .45 Colt and .357 Mag.
