Marlin 336A vs. 336C

I'm wondering what are the differences if any, between the clamp on the forearm of the 336A & the actual band around the barrel on the 336C?

i think when you see such threads the consensus tends to be that there's little difference between the two. My brother is a lever guy and he feels that the endcap keeps the forearm tight and makes them more accurate. I have to admit there is pretty much always a little play in ones with the band, which sucks because I prefer the look of the walnut ones with the band...
