I have a Marlin 60 here and was going to switch out the scope on it with another similar one but which has a higher power/variable zoom. As I was pondering this I became confused at the scope mount and whether this would even be possible. I can't even figure out how they got the first scope in there. I attached some pictures, will I just have to buy some traditional scope rings? The top scope is obviously the one I want to put on, the second picture is a closeup of the weird scope mount. Can anyone tell me if this was the scope that would have come with the rifle in the 70's? Does this add any significant value?

If the scope says Glenfield, then it the one that came with it. Might I suggest you go with a real scope, not the tiny 3/4" mount ones? Go for 1" diameter tube with .22 rings. The little cheap 3/4" scopes were just that, cheap (some exceptions as always) and the tiny tube generally provides you with a poor/dark sight picture.

The 3/4" scope pictured with the wrap around mount should'nt add any significant value to the rifle.
As was mentioned, a 1" tube scope will be a much better option for you, as Jackal said, the 3/4" tube scopes do not offer all that great of perfomance.
As for the 'unitized' type mounts, check out BKL Technologies (bkltech.com), series 200 mounts. BKL-260, BKL-260D7 and the BKL-260H.

I used a BKL 1-piece 4" mount with 6 base screws I purchased from Pyramid Air to mount a 1" Leupold rimfire scope on a Marlin 60. I heard a 1-piece mount is better due to the potential for the scope to "walk" with a semi-auto. My scope has not moved to date.

That is a typical scope mount as seen on Japanese made scopes for the US sporter market back in my youth (1960s). It is comparable with the Weaver "tip-off" mount originated for mounting 3/4" scopes on .22 rifles with the 3/8" Weaver rail cut in the receiver.

Most 3/4" scopes with the tip-off mounts came from the factory with the mounts pre-installed; it was a semi-permanent assembly. Getting typical 3/4" mounts on was not easy and required disassembly of the adjustment turrets. I have a Tasco variable like the one in the top picture, but it came with the mounts factory installed. After looking it over, I would not try to change rings on it.

Some of the all-steel 3/4" scopes have gathered a collector/nostalgia interest. But to be blunt, most low-end 3/4" tube scopes (aluminum and plastic) were treated as disposable products.

(I have seen those Tasco scopes mounted with Weaver sidemounts; the ring parts of the side mounts are assembled with screws on four corners.)

i did not know they even made mounts like that anymore. the last one i had was back in the 70's. your doing yourself a huge favor by switching it out with a real scope. even if the real scope is a cheapie.

I have a Leapers air rifle scope mount on mine, got it from Optics Planet. Very similar to that RWS mount, which looks like a dandy as well, although a little tall.
