Hey guys

Just picked up a Marlin Camp 9 this weekend. Are there any problems with parts breaking of any kind? I ordered a 21lb recoil spring from wolff. Any other issues I should know about? Thanks for the help in advance!

Camp 9's are AWESOME! the 21 lb spring is too stiff, unless your shooting lots +P++ loads, get the 16.5 lb from Wolff, and send off for 3 or so buffers from Blackjack Buffers. The factory buffer (whitish-yellowish color) has a bad habit of disintegrating during firing, allowing the bolt to slam into the rear of the receiver. This also tends to crack the stock in the wrist area, best check yours out for hairlines. Best mags available are MecGars (10, 15, 20, and 30 rounders, the 20's seem best) and run about $25 each.

Ditto on the black jack buffer. Failure to replace a worn buffer can result in more than a cracked stock (specifically the hammer strut and hammer strut bridge... believe I know from experience that they're hard to find). Replace buffer unless you know how old it is.

I called one of the guys at my local Cabela's gun counter and they got me one for $250 in less than 36 hours. I looked for them in pawn shops, but all those guys must think theirs are "special". I've seen some go for as high as $900, but that's for unfired, new in box condition, with the box and all the goodies. There are almost none of those left, people who have Camp 9's and Camp 45's typically burn LOTS of ammo.....

I don’t use aluminum case ammunition any longer in my camp 9. There is not enough neck tension and the bullet can be seated deeper upon chambering making pressures skyrocket. New stock and a few parts later, brass cases seem to be the ticket.

Thanks for all the info. I just called wolff and changed to the 16.5lb spring and will definitely get the buffers. I though 300 was a good deal so i jumped on it. Sounds like I did ok. Keep the info coming!

Smoke, you did awesome! Getting a Camp 9 is like getting the beef AND the stroganoff, the macaroni AND the cheese, the 4WD AND the V8. If there was ever a gun that personified the sheer joy of shooting, the Camp 9 is it. You're gonna love it!

It's like being the Little Piggy and going All The Way Home!!!!

They looked like fun so I bagged one on GunBroker about 2 years ago for $185 plus shipping and FFL fee. About $225 when done.

The spring and buffer are the main issues. Mine arrived with the buffer looking like powder.

Mine came with a S&W M659 mag (pictured) and a 30 round aftermarket unit that seems to work OK. I bought an original 12 round Marlin mag to fit flush and the 12 round S&W 459 mag will do the same thing.

Winchester or Federal 115 +Ps clock 1300 FPS.

I bought one for my wife. She prefered her M-1 Carbine, and I was just "meh" about it myself, so we sold it.

Nothing wrong with it, really, just neither one of us really liked shooting it as much as other guns we had. She has her M-1 Carbine, and a Ruger 10/22 for a cheap plinker, and enjoyed both of those more then the Camp 9.

+1 on the buffers and 16.5# spring.I put a Choate folding stock on mine.Federal ammo @ wally world for 10.97=:D

You will love it!

Over $300 and they are over priced. There is better pistol carbines available for the money. They chew threw the buffers if you plan to shoot them much. A design flaw really, which is likely why they where discontinued. I will give them this, they are accurate, and they look nice.

Stock up on buffers.

To anyone who shoots their camp 9 a lot how often do you change your buffers?

I have only changed mine once but after I built a suppressed 9mm AR upper it pretty much collects dust these days.

One questions to those who have changed the buffers and recoil spring. How hard is it? Are there parts that I need to be careful removing in the install process? I have taken many guns apart and detailed stripped a few but just want to check. Thanks!

I have one in .45. This thing is a hoot! My front sight came off and won't stay on so I fabbed one up. Works good now.

BK, I only know of two others in the price range... the Keltec and the Hi Point. I have a hi point and love it, but it has a MAJOR limitation of a 10 round magazine. I only emphasize major because this is my fun gun, to use at the range and maybe night time coyote hunting from a blind.

I know nothing about the keltec.

There are 9mm uppers for AR's but they would be way out of the $300 price range... imo...

Not sure what clone was referring too... sorry to answer for you clone.

Clone, what "better pistol cal carbines" are there out right now?

That is a very open question. There are many out there that are better for many different reasons. If you asked what 9mm semi auto carbine that cost under $300 brand new the list would shrink considerably.

The Marlin Camp Carbine .45 definitely goes in the "Wish I hadn't sold it....DOH!" category. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Sold it during one of those times of "Financial Embarrasment"...something about hungry, squalling children, and no gas to drive out and hunt, etc..... :(
