My Dad bought a Marlin Goose gun (the 36" barrel, bolt action 12ga) around 1982. While visiting him I got it out and tried my skills out with some clay pigeons. It was rather embarrassing - I hit a few that I waited until they were a long ways out. I told the story to an "old gun guy" yesterday and he told me the pattern on the old goose gun was very tight until you got out past 40 yards.

It got me wondering, would the old goose gun be good for turkey hunting?

It would be fine except for the PITA of carrying a three foot long barrel through the woods.

Longer barrels do not help you shoot farther, or hold patterns tighter at longer distances. This is what chokes are for.

I sure it would be a fine turkey gun however, except for the size of the gun.
