Okay so I looked at the new Marlin XL7 today for the first time at Cabellas. No wonder people are excited about this thing, it looks just like a Savage. They even have their own version of the Accu-trigger and the lock nutted barrel. So, the question is, do they shoot as well as the Savage? Actually, for those of you who own them, the question is what kind of accuracy are you getting from them and which caliber are you shooting? I was really hoping they had these available in 223 but I could make due with a 25-06. Is anyone switching barrels on these things yet? Does anyone know if there is a short action coming out in the forseeable future? I have to say that I like their plastic stock better than the one that is on the Savage.

Been looking at one myself I hear they are pretty sweet. The short action is going to be called the XS7 and has been announced on the Marlin website and they had some on display at the SHOT show from what I read, no idea on when they will be made for sale though.

I have two of them. One in .270 and the other in 30-06. The .270 shoots under an inch with Remington Core-Lokt 130 gr soft points, with Leupold VXI3-9X40.

The 30-06 shoots slightly over an inch with Federal Fusion 165 soft points, and has a VXII 4-12X40 AO optics on it.

I've floated the barrels on both, and adjusted the trigger as low as it will go. I'm very pleased with both of these rifles. They could easily sell for much higher than what Marlin is selling them for.

i love mine i go it in november in .30-06

i shoot mostly handloads and im shooting around moa at 100yrds (1.1-.9) my best so far has been .8moa great gun for the price

ive never been big on savage but i dont have alot of experience with them marlin is a company that i love and know they wont sell me alot of crap

the short action i heard will be for sale in 2009 probably the summer i think i may pick one up in .308 but not sure yet depends on the finances at the time

Does anyone own the 25-06

of the three calibers that they make right now that would be my top choice. I have the dies and another rifle in that caliber. The 270 is a great deer rifle and, the 30-06 has its purposes but I don't need or want to load for any more than I already do. As I said before, I would love to pick one up in 223. I think it would be a great "walking gun" if it is fairly accurate.

Paintballdude, you gotta give Savage a try. They don't sell junk. There really is a legitimate reason that so many people love them. They are accurate as heck. They are also fun to fool around with by switching barrels. That is one of the nice things about your Marlin, as soon as factory take-offs and aftermarket barrels come available, you could get barrels in 270 and 25-06 and switch them around as well.

I am going to buy one of these to see if they live up to the hype. I really hope they do. If it doesn't I will sell it. If it does, then everyone wins. It is always a good thing when a good product becomes available at a reasonable price.
