anyone have one?

i just had the local shop order one(319 plus tax 341 said and done) ive held one and read a bunch of online reviews but no first hand stuff


what do you think of yours?

how does it shoot

what glass did you put on it
 
I do not have one, but if I rwrt, it has a Green Mountain bbl, a fully steel bolt, with good gas flutes, Z in , and out for removing of bolt , and a Timney trigger. That alone for me , would be enough to buy one.

I've fondled a .30-06 in a shop and was going to order the .25-06 but when they announced a short action for next year I decided to hold out for a 7mm-08.

You order the 30, 270 or the 25?

its just my cal of pref. .......that and i already have dies and brass

i dont know a whole lot about the .25-06 i know its a good round for deer and elk but idk much more

if i like it i may pick up a shorty in .308 when they come out next year for a fun gun since i already reload for .308
 
Supposedly short action XS7 coming out in 308, 7mm-08 and 243. The XL7's are hard to find so I can imagine the XS7's will be in great demand when they come out. Rumors also that Marlin is going to offer wood and laminated stocks also.
 
I have heard nothing but bad things about it but for the price I do not see how you could go wrong????? I wonder how well they will lend themself to building custom rifles on. Since they are cheap and will not need much work the will probably be showing up in large numbers for rebarrels and restocking.
 
What bad things? Most of the things I've read have been positive. For the price, nobody is expecting high end, yet it seems to be similiar to other lower end rifles (Savages, Mossbergs, etc).
 
The trigger is NOT A LICENSED COPY OF THE SAVAGE TRIGGER. I'm not sure where you get your information, but it doesn't even operate like the AccuTrigger. In short, the inside lever of the Marlin trigger operates like that of a Glock, the rest of the mechanism is a fully adjustable trigger.

I have two XL7 rifles, one in .270 and one in 30-06. Both shoot great, and the metal is finished much nicer than you would think. I floated the barrel on the .270, and it shoots awesome. The 30-06 shoots almost as good.

You can't hardly go wrong with the XL7s.
 
Yes, floating it reduced the groups (3-shot) from around 1.4 MOA to about .9 MOA. That's with standard Remington 130 gr. Core-Lokt factory ammo.

The rifle does exhibit a desire to be free floated. I would dearly love for someone to make a quality fiberglass stock for this rifle, so I could try to glass bed the action on it.
 
I'll take 1.5 MOA any day from a rifle retailing for under $300 with factory ammunition for roughly $12 a box :D

I'll bet finding a good load for it will bring groups much closer to a 1 MOA average.
 
This rifle loves Hornady Custom 130 grain soft point ammo. MOA to a little over MOA groups out of the box (5 shot). 0.975" was best. 1.375" was the worst.
 
As a follow-up to my last post, I've found a very promising load that gave me a 5-shot group of 0.563" at 100 yards. More testing, of course, is needed before declaring this THE load for my XL7, but I am cautiously optimistic about it.

Oh, and as soon as I see an XS7 in 7mm-08, I'm all over it.
 
Doorgunner, how'd you float the barrel? I see there's only two points where the syn. stock touches the barrel under the end of the forearm. Did you just sand those down so there's nothing touching the barrel?
 
lever i did it afew weeks ago

i got a dowel that fit the channel and put a piece of sand paper around it then went to town sanding the 2 points down then i took a little off of all sides to make sure nothing was contacting the barrel

Savage is low end? It may not be high end like a cooper or weatherby, but to put it into the same category as the marlin and mossberg, don't think so. Put it with the Rem 700, Tikka, CZ, and then make it more accurate with a better trigger.
