when the poop hits the fan, everyone knows they are gonna want a Glock

Anyone reaching for a handgun when the chips are really down is a fool.

In the event of massive civil unrest, you can keep your Glocks. I'll be sittin' pretty with an AR-10 in my hands and an 11-87 Police across my back.

I'm in my late 20s and a revolver guy through and through. All of my guns are revolvers at this point. I enjoy their simplicity. As chance has it I just bought my first semi-auto a few days ago: a ruger SR9c. I pick it up on Monday and we'll see how she shoots.

Nothing wrong with semi-autos IMO. Its always good to get a peek at whats on the other side of the fence, if ya know what I mean. I'm not going to comment on what's better in a gun fight, self defense, etc., those subjects have been beaten to death on various forums. To each is own! The good thing is that this is America and we can choose between either a revolver or a semi-auto (or both) for self defense.

I bought my first wheelgun when I was 25. When it comes down to the most dependable choice in a self defense firearm, I go with a revolver. I have never had one not go bang when I pulled the trigger or jam. Sometimes I carry an auto-loader, but 80% of the time, I am carrying a revolver.

Im quite astounded that an article like this even needs to be written.

My first CCW as a ripe old 21 year old was this. It is still my primary.

When something goes bump in the night, the handgun I want in my hand is this one . . . even over all my bottom feeders. Why? Because of how well it fits my hand and how well I shoot it.

It's a chopped barrel (to 3 1/4") S&W Model 25-2 .45ACP revolver. Those seven BIG holes will cause most BGs to need an immediate diaper change.

Check out those big ol' Speer "Flying Ashtray" hollowpoint . . . definitely "old school."

Speaking of "old school," I spanked about 35 fine competitors with it once at a steel match. Guns started empty . . . 18 steel plates and poppers had to fall in the fastest time to win ALL the money . . . and you could use any iron-sighted handgun you wanted. Yep . . . empty guns, ONE mandatory reload and 18 targets, most grabbed their high cap. .45 competition automatics.

They laughed and said, 'How are you expecting to win with a six-shooter?" "Fast, clean and accurate," I said. They weren't laughing when I took their money!;) I can reload this moon clipped revolver as fast as my 1911 competition guns . . . and shoot it best too.

Yep . . . this is one formidable gun!

I have nothing against a fine automatic and own my share . . . but one should shoot what he shoots best. It's not about massive ammo reserves, its about hitting your target quickly and consistently under pressure that will usually "win."

Also, we are accountable for each and every bullet that leaves our barrel, including those which miss our intended target.

Hey S&Wfan,

Your mother-in-law take that picture?

Just kidding. I'd run if I saw that!

I think If I were examined by a medical professioal the forensic diagnosis of my sickness would progress like so . .

Definetly a chronic revolver addiction.

My Dad is 80 and has a Hi-Power that he loves but he can no longer rack the slide. Got him a GP100 and he is back in business and loves it.

I am old and own both autos and revolvers. I prefer a fine tuned .357 magnum revolver with good grips over any auto.

When it came time to decide, it because obvious that for CC purposes I needed something simple, safe and effective. In a situation where I'd need a gun, I'd be a fool not to think I'd be surprised, upset, not thinking well, and needing to take quick action. One of the things I wasn't going to count on was a a gun with complex controls, it had to be dead simple. It had to be capable of being carried and neglected, full of gum wrappers and lint, and still function correctly. And I decided a 15 shot magazine was unneeded on a SD gun, after the first shot both me and the bad guy will be heading for cover, and if still shooting then it will be decided before either of us gets 5 rounds off, so I decided a 5 round snubbie was really viable. One thing I did do was practice, so 15 shots aren't required. Right now I can reliably hit a man at 50 yards with a 2" snubbie.

Then is came time to arm the Wife. After screwing around a bit, I decided to get serious and give her the snubbie for all the reasons above. For a daughter who needed to carry I got another snubbie. And I will do the same for a 2nd daughter who's considering carrying.

Currently I'm carrying a PA-63, based on being a great value for the money and reliable as all Mak's are, much to admire and easier to clean, but I'm tired of chasing my brass. When I take care of some other needs, I will be back in the market for a good 3-4" barrel revolver, maybe in something interesting like .45 ACP, or an 8 shot .357.

los, I'm usually into shiny guns, but that snubbie really makes me want one. That gun is sweet.

los, who makes those speedloaders? I have never seen anything like them, and they perfectly complement the gun.

Actually, the ones visibly carrying the long guns will probably be the first ones killed during a massive civil unrest.
And they most likely will never even see it coming....probably will be shot in the back.

The ones carrying a concealed pistol (revolver or auto) will probably be the ones who survive.

You see, guys toting long guns look more like a potential threat than guys who have no weapons visible. ;)
