Has anybody loaded Mike's Mastercast (Carbondale IL) 240gr 44 cal lswc bullets for 44 mag using 10 gr of unique? I have read different start and max loads that vary greatly with lead bullets. I assume this is because of the difference in hardness (BHN) of the tested bullets. I'm looking for some good mid range 44 mag loads with little to no leading with Mike's Bullets. I'm not sure of the (BHN) of Mike's bullets (I left a message on his machine earlier), so I was wanting to keep them around 1000 fps. I also have some 2400 powder if by chance anyone has used his bullets with 2400 around 1000 fps.

.44 is one round I don't load but others from .32acp to .45acp I've loaded with Mike's slugs with great results for plinking/practice rounds. very little leading with mid-range loads. .32, .380, 9Mak, 9mmPara and .45 over BE or RD.
the only other cast slug I've loaded is 4$bill's 158gr .38/.357's. also good results w/moderate loads.

I've ordered numerous times from Mike--all 38S/357 bullets, however, and not recently.

The bulets I got all tested for BHN between 11 and 15. Other than particular powder / recipe combinations, I had no trouble with leading. I'd say, go ahead and try some.

I have loaded a 240 gr LSWC with 10 grs. of Unique and had no problems. I have since switched to W231 @ 10 grs. because it meters better. And I like the lesser recoil of 231 also. They are very accurate.

I load my 250gr cast in 44mag. with 10.2 gr. of Alliant Unique, mag. primer. I would consider it a Maximum load.
