What is the maximum OAL that will feed from the average Remington 700SA magazine, .308 cal.?

I have a 700 SS 5-R Milspec and want to lengthen my rounds but I was wondering what lengths other's have tried before I start experimenting.

The longest COAL that I found using 308 based cartridges was 2.875" listed for the 7mm-08.
That should hold for all SA rounds based on the 308 family.

It's best that you check the dimensions for your own rifle to verify, before running a batch.
You'll also need to check the dimension to your lands to avoid interference.

If you have the rifle in your possession, check it yourself.

Seat as long as will fit in the mag.

Then "color" a bullet with a Magic-Marker and chamber it.
See if the rifling leade is rubbing the marker ink off the bullet anywhere.

If it is, seat it shorter until it isn't.

That right there is your max COL with that specfic bullet you are using.
All bullets with a different ogive will be different though..

Usually the max OAL for a bolt rifle is determined by the magazine.
The magazine lenght for any rifle is the same for all bullets.
