I have an older Springfield 1911 "Loaded" -- from the days when this model was made with staked on front sight and the edges were extremely sharp.
A while back when I lived elsewhere I had the edges softened somewhat by a local, no-name gunsmith. I haven't used the gun much, but I am now interested in shooting the 1911 more and possibly carrying it.
I noticed that the gun wreaks havoc on the inside of my leather holster (Mitch Rosen Premier) and is not exactly pleasant to handle either. I am thinking about getting a "carry melt" done.
First of all, is this advisable? Would it affect the integrity of the metal/parts at all? Also, to which gunsmith should I send it? I live in Northern Virginia -- is there any local gunsmith who is capable of this kind of edge beveling?
