Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for
those who have died in our nation's service.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan,
national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic and was first observed
on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and
Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all the men and women whom I will never
have the pleasure to meet, that served this country and have now passed.
Without these brave souls I may not have the opportunity to convey my
feeling on this or any other subject in public or hear/read the thoughts of
my fellow Americans.

My thanks extend to those not only on the frontline but the field doctors and
nurses that had once patched up our fighting men and women so they may
return to the fight or return home. To those that trained and taught our
solders, to those that mentored in the field, to those that support them in the
various roles and duties found in the branches of the military be it supply truck
driver or chow hall chef.

Many of this great Fighting Family have passed at various times and for various
reasons serving in various rolls, but all have contributed not only to this
great Nation we call home but to the world itself.

My thanks to all those I shall never meet.
