I am certain this has happened to others or at least hope i am nt the only one.......I have a handgun purchased good while ago and have misplaced the reciept or even possibly the clerk forgot to give it to me,everything is legit i bought it brand new it is mine,I was wondering will no receipt ever be a issue if i ever have to use the lifetime warranty...i assume others have misplaced receipts

Whats the protocol? Or is it no big issue like they verify it is mine somehow or what?

Thanks

Actually, SCkimberfan, I believe that both parties are required to keep a record of the transaction for 10 years. That means that the store will also have a copy of the receipt that he can get a copy of with a little bit of hassle (such as proving he is the actual owner and he is who he is)(this is all theoretical of course).

It depends on where you live. Gunshops keep the 4473 forms on file forever if I understand correctly and turn them into the ATF if the store ever goes out of business. In most places face to face sales are legal and no receipt is required. I "MIGHT" have receipts laying around for 1 or 2 of my several dozen guns. Simply not an issue here.

I did that with my EAA Witness in 10mm and the slide cracked with less than 150 rds. of factory ammo (180 @ 1100), first time I ever shot it. EAA won't touch it without the reciept. I've never lost a reciept before or after. I'll never buy anything from them again. They make a crap product and their customer service sucks.

Huh. Of all of the warranty cards I've ever filled out, I don't recall any of then requiring a copy of the receipt, just the basic info, model, S/N, date bought, where bought, etc. and on occasion some general statistical info like what gun related mags I read, household income, highest education, etc. If you have any issues requiring a receipt, just go back to where you got it and ask for a copy or have the gun company call up your seller.

Warranty card is no guarantee warranty will be honored. Usually they are just used for statistical and marketing purposes.

Likely if you fill out warrant card and the manufacturer requires a receipts then you will STILL NEED receipt.

Likely if you DON'T fill out warranty card and the manufacturer does not require receipt you will still be covered.

i assume others have misplaced receipts

A lot of people don't keep them at all. There is no federal requirement to do so, some states may require it, but I don't know of any. Illinois does not require the buyer to keep a receipt, just the seller. Don't worry about it.

I always store my receipts in the box the firearm comes in.I have a receipt for every handgun I own.

I have a shelf full of boxes in my garage!

I've got a few receipts for some guns I've bought for some reason or other. I've sure never made any attempt to "save" them, I just haven't thrown them away yet.

Oh, and the only gun I've ever had to send back for any kind of work at all was a Ruger revolver. Ruger doesn't have a written warranty at all. They fixed it and sent it back, no charge.

A company either stands behind what they make or they don't. If they say you have to have a receipt to have warranty work done, it's because they don't intend to fix it in the first place. They are counting on the fact that nobody saves receipts for the most part. (That applies to other things than guns too IMHO.)

I wouldn't worry about it.

How long ago did you buy it? You might be able to contact the vendor.

I have a couple of receipts that are just a few years old and the ink is disappearing. They have been kept in a folder in my safe the whole time. I hate that disappearing ink. I have also had that problem with some retail stores like Sears and Home Depot. I now photo copy important receipts.

Good grief. Is this an intentional thing or just crappy ink?

Go back to the dealer or the one you bought it from and have them write/print you a new receipt...If you MUST have a receipt. I have over 20 firearms and I think I can come up with 4, maybe 5 receipts...
