I figure my wife, Missashot, would like to share her first AR-15 build with the members of THR. She bought a Stag Arms lower, DPMS lower parts kit, Calvary Arms purple stock kit (my Xmas present to her), and a complete XM177 upper from "Model 1 Sales". Missashot determined what configuration she wanted and assembled everything herself with very minimal assistance from me (she used my Bushy as a guide to assemble the lower). We are hoping to test fire a few rounds through it this afternoon. Here it is.....

Special "Thanks" to Michael Williamson (aka - Madmike) for his assistance with the project.

Excellent~!

One of my range buddies is a woman who shoots an AR with candy-apple red furniture. She of course has a matching red range bag, red shooting visor, and red-tint safety glasses. She even wears fingernail polish to match.

You know what I think about that? I think she shoots really, really well because she practices a lot. And she practices a lot because she has so much fun getting out to the range with stuff that looks cool to her.

Missashot, I hope you have as much success on the range with this beautiful gun as my friend has had with hers!

I don't care what it looks like, I'd hate to be looking down the wrong end of the barrel. :uhoh:

Congrats, enjoy!

"Nice, wonder if you could get mags anodized in a matching color for her."

That would look really cool. I've seen some really neat colors in anodized aluminum.

Could Duracoat the mag(s) if she wanted.

Looks fine as it is too. Great project - I hope missashot enjoys it in good health.

Actually, it is near impossible to find any paint that matches the stocks, but I did find a "plum" colored can of Krylon and we picked up a slightly used 30-round mag to paint. A couple of nights ago, I discovered that the mag is not a simple light sanding and degreasing and then painting. Appearantly, the grey coating is a dry-lube/teflon coating, and paint will not stick to it. Laquer thinner and paint stripper will not remover the coating, so.....I sanded the mag housing with 220-grit sandpaper. Now, hopefully, it will allow paint to stick to it.

As for other matching items, we've been talking about trying to find some close-matching nylon to make a sling out of (I'd also thought about painting/powder-coating the visable parts of the trigger, selector switch, and a few other parts).....I'd talked about getting a set of yellow stocks for my Bushmaster and putting "Ducati 748" stickers on it, but Missashot told me that the velocities will be too low and that I should get blue stocks and put GSXR stickers on it for better performance. :neener: :D

Missashot I like your rifle, I like your style. In the photo the color of the magazine sort of works with the rest of it.

pretty cool idea, and when I go to the sandbox I'll put harley stickers on my M2, 'cause they're both big and loud as hell :neener: and damn near indestructable:D

Kramer, check out what hso did for his daughter - see this thread for details. I'm sure his gunsmith could do a similar job on your wife's AR in the color(s) of her choice.

Pax, that's awesome :) Nice AR Kramer! If you take the mag apart, and sandblast the body (and possibly floorplate) you should be able to paint it. Paint will wear with use however.

I like Pax's references to matching range bag, and glasses (and any other accessories :) rather than going furthur detail into the gun.

I sanded the body and floorplate really well with 220-grit sandpaper and primed and painted the mag last night. I just wish it matched the stocks. I'm going to slowly bake the finish this evening and probably reassemble the mag on Saturday.

Missashot likes shooting her S&W 629 with magnum loads and likes shooting her two 1911s, so I was quite tickled when, a day or two before buying and building the lower, she was giddy as a schoolgirl when she'd gotten her nails done (something she hadn't done in several months). I guess girls will be girls.....even if they do have a 44 magnum in their hands. ;)

That is awesome. :)

My 3 year old wants a purple one. And my 5 year old wants a pink one. The purple must have Hello Kitty stickers and the pink one has to have Barbie.
