Yesterday, June 26, 2008, Gov. Matt Blunt, signed a bill allowing suppressors in MO. I haven't read the bill yet, but was so looking forward to that happening here. And here's a quote, "Allowing for the lawful manufacture, purchase and possession of firearm suppressors;"

Here's a link for anyone interested:

http://www.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills081/bills/HB2034.htm

I ran across some neat designs on the internet and always wanted to build one for shooting around the property with out disturbing the neighbors. Not that they have ever reciprocated; sometimes Sunday mornings sound like the fourth of July.

Now, if I can only figure out what a Suppressor is? Any help would be appreciated. (In accordance with the legislation just passed here in MO.)

There was a Sunday morning news program about a month ago, and they were showing how the American grey squirrel was taking over the habitat of the red squirrels in England. So, they show this gamekeeper on a large estate shooting the grey squirrels with a bolt action rifle with a suppressor on it. Very Neat!!! That'll be me next month.

Appreciate the info....

PTK & KI.W -- thanks much for the info you provided. I did happen to notice that our law here won't go into effect until 8/28/08, so I'll have plenty of time to do some research on the subject.

Just wanted everyone to know how elated I am; the Heller decision and now this, all in one week. The devil must be busy beating his wife. (joke)

thanks again,

Kerf

Well, that is good news, all this good news so soon is amazing. I wonder how long it will live... Oh well, gotta go buy a supressor...

Perhaps someone can help me out here. I didn't see anything in the linked bill that legalizes suppressors in Missouri. I really, really want this to true, but I just can't see it.

Any other links/info??

You know, I just read it (not much interest, I don't live there, I took your word for it) and here's the summary text.

(6) Specifies that no firearm silencer may be possessed,
manufactured, transported, repaired, or sold as a curio,
ornament, or keepsake unless the seller is an importer,
manufacturer, dealer, or collector licensed by federal law;

The way I read it, a dealer in NFA items could sell to civilians. :)

However, I don't think that a form 1 would be approved, by that wording.

What am I missing here?

"571.020. 1. A person commits a crime if such person knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs, or sells:
...
(6) A firearm silencer;
...
2. A person does not commit a crime pursuant to this section if his conduct:
...
(5) Was incident to dealing with the weapon solely as a curio, ornament, or keepsake, or to using it in a manner reasonably related to a lawful dramatic performance; but if the weapon is a type described in subdivision (1)[,] or (4) [or (6)] of subsection 1 of this section it must be in such a nonfunctioning condition that it cannot readily be made operable. No short barreled rifle, short barreled shotgun, [or] machine gun, or firearm silencer may be possessed, manufactured, transported, repaired or sold as a curio, ornament, or keepsake, unless such person is an importer, manufacturer, dealer, or collector licensed by the Secretary of the Treasury pursuant to the Gun Control Act of 1968, U.S.C., Title 18, or unless such firearm is an "antique firearm" as defined in subsection 3 of section 571.080, or unless such firearm has been designated a "collectors item" by the Secretary of the Treasury pursuant to the U.S.C., Title 26, Section 5845(a). "

I don't see how this enables suppressors for "normal" shooting and hunting...

Am I looking at the correct version of the new law?

best,

Having attempted to read the bill....

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. I don't see where it says suppressors are no longer verboten in MO. Possibly the final bill as passed into law is not yet available.

I did receive an alert from the NRA saying the bill was signed by Gov. Matt Blunt and that it did allow for suppressors. Strange....

I'll keep checking when time permits.

Ciao,

Kerf

Floridians have been allowed to get a supressor or full auto, you need to get the tax stamp, permit, and your good, but a local official to sign off on it, like a police chief or a judge. I always wondered wht the reason is that you give when they ask you why you want it? I like to shoot in the house while the little woman whips up dinner? In NY we used to be told possesion of an full auto or silencer, was life in prison, Then I moved here to FL, and all that went out the window. Oh you also need a corporation, that was 8 yrs ago last time I checked.

Like I've said before... The can section is basically like the buzzgun section. Missouri law says you gotta have an FFL (methinx the politishuns think that it's some sort of federal license to have a boomstick), so basically, folks who want to a class III item get themselves a C&R license.

Such a burden, you know? Oy, and the trauma of surplus...

Slow down there kerf

It is a federal felony to build your own!

You may purchase a suppressor with the proper forms and taxes paid, but no person other than a licensed manufacturer may make even one legally.

Say, What?!

Say, What?! You are WRONG, stop spreading Misinformation.

Now, you don't often see people make Silencers/Suppressors on Form 1s, because there are a lot of subtleties that are more 'legally' involved than making SBRs/SBSs, nonetheless it is legal and possible under Federal law.

Look it up.

Wrongo, new guy... Been listening to your local police or gun-shop commandos?

Design it. Get an expert or two to agree that it might work. Send Agent Schmuckatelli's sister-in-law Doris your $200, and when you have your manufacturing stamp, start making chips.

I'm gonna go ahead and pick up a barrel for a 1911... I've got a Series 70 and a 1911A1... I'm thinking the A1 would be easier to deal with, right? probably a screw-on with a locknut behind it, right? I'm thinking 5.75" should be enough, so I'll start with a 6" barrel, and turn it back a little.

I'm thinking steel "wipers" just a tad bit oversized, and probably pack with some steel wool. Probably won't go wet.

This is old legalese for "if you want to own an NFA weapon you can get one." You own the weapon because it's a curio.

If this were written in the modern vernacular it would say,

"You want to own the weapon because it's cool".

bogie

Go with K or M baffles, and you'll need a LD/Nielson device/booster for the 1911 design. PM me if you'd like already proven designs. :)
